Still Waters Posted May 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2018 A Chinese family recently discovered that the "dog" they adopted in 2016 is actually a black bear. Su Yun bought what she thought to be a Tibetan mastiff puppy two years ago and brought it home with her family in Kunming city, Yunnan province, after a holiday vacation, according to a report by Chinanews.com via Independent. The "puppy" surprised Yun's family with its appetite. Yun said the animal could down a box of fruits and two buckets of noodles every day. http://www.asiaone.com/china/chinese-family-discovers-pet-dog-actually-black-bear-after-2-years 1

Fruits and noodles, because that's exactly what a dog eats. 1
Kenemet Posted May 16, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2018 This has all the earmarks of the "family adopts Mexican dog that turns out to be a rat" urban legend. 4 2
Grandpa Greenman Posted May 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2018 I think they knew it was most likely illegal to keep a black bear. "I thought it was a dog?" to keep from going to jail or a fine. 7

Well mine only does item one. She refuses to fetch anything that isn't a squirrel or similar "critter". I did have a very stocky and furry mixed cocker years ago. We were at a rest stop somewhere and a guy asked why we had a black bear on a leash. She went woof and fetched so she definitely was a dog.
