EllJay Posted June 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2018 It's kinda fun to hear what people deem as the best guitar solo ever. I know there are some old threads here, on the subject,...and I think we might be up at the #54th edition by now, or something... Well anyway, when one says that; "this must be the best guitar solo ever", someone else always chip in with some other suggestions you wouldn't even had imagined.....and perhaps those solos change change your mind... I cant say that I have heard them all. But I have heard many guitar solos...and out of those, these 3 ar my suggestions; These are not just good,...they are transcendental .....well, according to me... Pink Floyd (Pulse Tour) Gary Moore - Empty Room (The Globe Stockholm 1987 ) Marillion - Kayleigh (1985) So.., I know "my" best solos, but what are yours?

EllJay Posted June 9, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted June 9, 2018 A few more that ranks very high on the list are, Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing (Alchemy Live) Eagles - Hotel California (Live 1977) Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train (Randy Rhoads) another Ozzy song, but with Jake E Lee. There is a two-part of this solo. The one that start right here, and then the second part that continues at 3:54 Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon (Jake E Lee) Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine (also a two-part solo) Eric Clapton - Layla

Yeah, I were actually at that particular show, which he was recording for a live album/video. He had amazing sound, which is not usually the case in that arena for most other bands. Since it's a giant globe it's pretty hard to get a decent sound in there. And when he played this solo, from Empty Rooms, you could almost hear a pin drop in there. Pretty much everyone stood silent and just listened to it...immersed and mesmerized by it.
EllJay Posted June 15, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted June 15, 2018 This is also one of my favorite solos - by Scott Gorham from Thin Lizzy. The latter part of the solo - with its separated rhythm and loop, that speeds up and slows down - is pretty hard to do - and it is just awesome. The harmony-melody is like flowing mercury. One thing about it, that I don't like, is the production-mixing of the solo. The treble is too high pitched, and the higher notes of the solo gets "shrieky".
