The CDC has issued a warning about pre-cut watermelon. Sixty people have come down sick and 31 were hospitalized, which they say in a high percentage. Here we go again!

Thanks for the warning.

It seems increasingly important that we, as food consumer's, pay attention and take note of deleterious health reports before we, ourselves, become victims of contamination.

I don't buy any pre-cut fruit. You don't know how it's stored or what country it was grown in. In South and Central America they fertilize with raw sewerage and still use DDT.

Yeah, me neither.

It's just cheaper if you buy it whole and cut it yourself.

I thought I was just being frugal and here I was saving us from salmonella.

How the contamination with all the health and safety regulations nowadays?

Are they closing Caito Foods of Indianapolis, India,  down until a full investigation has been made, or are they able to keep supplying other things too?

Well, we used to have health and safety regulations.

I'm pretty sure they're being whittled away now.

So these "new" amendments, does it only apply if the company chooses to follow it?

Quote

new amendments made to the Toxic Substances Control Act in 2016.

Seems some are not. Whos checking these companies, or do they just say "here are the new amendments, now be a good chap and follow them"  and thats the end of it?

Here's another recall due to possible Salmonella contamination. This time, it's Honey Smacks cereal. Reports are saying at least 20 people have been affected.

Yeah something more robust needs to change regarding food-safety inspections.

I don't mind paying a dime more on a product to support legitimate food-safety experts.

Won't washing the fruit or lettuce get rid of this?

Sometimes. You can't wash breakfast cereal. Notification to the public is poor unless you happen to see it online. Eating in restaurants can be iffy.

Be careful handling raw turkey. Wash your hands and clean all surfaces when your preparation is done. Seems alright after it's cooked.

Now it's Goldfish crackers. It seems a company that produces whey powder has notified the companies that use it of a potential for Salmonella bacteria being present.
