+susieice Posted June 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2018 The CDC has issued a warning about pre-cut watermelon. Sixty people have come down sick and 31 were hospitalized, which they say in a high percentage. Here we go again! https://foodpoisoningbulletin.com/2018/cdc-salmonella-adelaide-outbreak-pre-cut-melon-lawyer/ 5 1
pallidin Posted June 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2018 Thanks for the warning. It seems increasingly important that we, as food consumer's, pay attention and take note of deleterious health reports before we, ourselves, become victims of contamination.
Piney Posted June 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2018 I don't buy any pre-cut fruit. You don't know how it's stored or what country it was grown in. In South and Central America they fertilize with raw sewerage and still use DDT.

rashore Posted June 10, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 10, 2018 I always find it interesting that only some recalls actually make the news. There's recalls pretty much weekly for various problems. Allergens, mislabeling, debris of various kinds in the food, pathogens other than salmonella.. Great link for folks to keep up on: https://www.foodsafety.gov/recalls/recent/index.html 1

I thought I was just being frugal and here I was saving us from salmonella. 3

Are they closing Caito Foods of Indianapolis, India, down until a full investigation has been made, or are they able to keep supplying other things too?

Well, we used to have health and safety regulations. I'm pretty sure they're being whittled away now. http://www.newsweek.com/pruitt-trump-asbestos-chemicals-trump-962703 3 1

Quote new amendments made to the Toxic Substances Control Act in 2016. Seems some are not. Whos checking these companies, or do they just say "here are the new amendments, now be a good chap and follow them" and thats the end of it?

I don't mind paying a dime more on a product to support legitimate food-safety experts.
