We tell ourselves what to do all the time.  We just don't obey.

Hi Tatetopa,

I like to think I'm fair in my not obeying what I am told and don't give myself special treatment just because I told myself to do something.

I stand behind you all the way.  Your fairness is a model for the rest of us that either knuckle under and do what we tell ourselves or rage like babies and refuse our own good advice. Balance is the key.
