ExpandMyMind Posted June 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2018 (edited) Quote For weeks, President Trump and his Republican allies in Congress havebeen hyping a forthcoming report from Inspector General Michael Horowitz regarding the DOJ’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation — their hope being that the document would discredit key witnesses and FBI officials involved in the ongoing investigation into Trump’s campaign for possible collusion with Russia. On Thursday, Bloomberg obtained the report’s conclusions ahead of the full release. Lo and behold, they don’t show what team Trump hoped they would. According to Bloomberg, the IG’s report finds that, if anything, former FBI Director James Comey was unfair to Hillary Clinton. 'Former FBI Director James Comey “deviated” from FBI and Justice Department procedures in handling the probe into Hillary Clinton, damaging the law enforcement agencies’ image of impartiality even though he wasn’t motivated by political bias, the department’s watchdog found in a highly anticipated report.' Quote Not only that, but the IG’s report finds that anti-Trump texts sent to each other by two FBI officials who were having an affair— Peter Strzok and Lisa Page — had no impact on the way the Clinton investigation was handled. So the reported conclusion is basically that Comey acted improperly regarding Hillary, but in a way that was negative to her, not beneficial. And it also concluded that the FBI 'lovebirds' had zero effect on any investigation. Of course, we already knew this. Let's see what else is revealed when the full report drops, but Republicans are already trying to make excuses for the disappointment: Quote Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and Andy Biggs (R-AZ) wrote to Horowitz on Thursday morning and suggested the report might somehow have been watered down during the review process. While Democrats are obviously singing its praises: Quote Meanwhile, Reps. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), the ranking member of the House Committee on the Judiciary, and Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released a statement saying, “The stark conclusion we draw after reviewing this report is that the FBI’s actions helped Donald Trump become President.” Nunes Nothingburger 2.0 by the looks of things. Predicted response: "Anyone who does not agree with our conspiracy theory is obviously a part of the conspiracy themselves". +and-then Posted June 14, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 14, 2018 I guess he thinks there wasn't going to be an attempt by the Leftist media to spin this thing. Of COURSE they're going to read English and explain it in Greek. I fully expect another government agency to do its best to exonerate the FBI, always have. I've assumed that this report was losing strength over all these months it has been delayed and if the people out there who pay the taxes had just one chance to really see what goes on behind the scenes, there would be a revolution of some kind and I doubt it would be pretty or peaceful.

Whatever it turns out to contain, one thing is for sure: tonight, Republicans are nestled, all snug in their bed, hurriedly snoozing because tomorrow, just maybe, Santa Claus is coming. ian hacktorp Posted June 14, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 14, 2018 (edited) EMM's celebration may prove to have been a bit premature: DOJ Releases IG Report On Clinton Email Probe: Faults Comey, Notes FBI Agent "Hostility" Against Trump Quote That text, the report said, was "indicative of a biased state of mind"—and suggested that Strzok may have intentionally slow-rolled the review of emails connected to the Clinton investigation discovered after the probe was closed, on a laptop belonging to former congressman Anthony Weiner. Strzok, as the number-two official in the Clinton investigation, was one of several individual figures who was made aware of the existence of the emails when they were initially uncovered. In other words, the second email probe into Clinton was only opened days before the election because, as some had suggested, one or more FBI agents had threatened to leak that the FBI was sitting on a potential trove of documents which incriminated Hillary, while both Strzok and McCabe tried to keep it all under wraps. According to the IG, the so-called "Midyear" team—the investigative unit that had handled the Clinton investigation—did not move to review the emails them until just days before the end of the election, almost a month after FBI officials in New York found them. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-06-14/doj-releases-ig-report-clinton-email-probe-faults-comey-notes-fbi-agent-hostility There is a long way to go in all of this. We found that, by no later than September 29, FBI executives and the FBI Midyear team had learned virtually every fact that was cited by the FBI in late October as justification for obtaining the search warrant for the Weiner laptop, including that the laptop contained: Over 340,000 emails, some of which were from domains associated with Clinton, including state.gov, clintonfoundation.org, clintonemail.com, and hillaryclinton.com; Numerous emails between Clinton and Abedin; An unknown number of Blackberry communications on the laptop, including one or more messages between Clinton and Abedin, indicating the possibility that the laptop contained communications from the early months of Clinton’s tenure; and Emails dated beginning in 2007 and covering the entire period of Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State. - From the summary. Apparently none of it was incriminating and the investigation was legitimate.

Possibly, but this is where the damage from lack of trust in the FBI is demonstrated. How can anyone be sure at this point? It's a judgment call and depends on one's political bias and that should never be the case when dealing with the DoJ or FBI. EVER.
ExpandMyMind Posted June 14, 2018 Author #15 Share Posted June 14, 2018 Conclusions of the report: First, we found that several FBI employees who played critical roles in the investigation sent political messages—some of which related directly to the Midyear investigation—that created the appearance of bias and thereby raised questions about the objectivity and thoroughness of the Midyear investigation. Even more seriously, text messages between Strzok and Page pertaining to the Russia investigation, particularly a text message from Strzok on August 8 stating “No. No he’s not. We’ll stop it.” in response to a Page text “[Trump’s] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!,” are not only indicative of a biased state of mind but imply a willingness to take official action to impact a presidential candidate’s electoral prospects. This is antithetical to the core values of the FBI and the Department of Justice. While we did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that improper considerations, including political bias, directly affected the specific investigative actions we reviewed in Chapter Five, the conduct by these employees cast a cloud over the entire FBI investigation and sowed doubt about the FBI’s work on, and its handling of, the Midyear investigation. It also called into question Strzok’s failure in October 2016 to follow up on the Midyear-related investigative lead discovered on the Weiner laptop. The damage caused by these employees’ actions extends far beyond the scope of the Midyear investigation and goes to the heart of the FBI’s reputation for neutral factfinding and political independence. Second, in key moments, then Director Comey chose to deviate from the FBI’s and the Department’s established procedures and norms and instead engaged in his own subjective, ad hoc decisionmaking. In so doing, we found that Comey largely based his decisions on what he believed was in the FBI’s institutional interests and would enable him to continue to effectively lead the FBI as its Director. While we did not find that these decisions were the result of political bias on Comey’s part, we nevertheless concluded that by departing so clearly and dramatically from FBI and Department norms, the decisions negatively impacted the perception of the FBI and the Department as fair administrators of justice. As I said, Comey hurt Hillary Clinton with his actions and the two agents did not mess with any investigations. I'd like to see someone spin that into 'the Mueller investigation is a witch hunt' or 'the FBI supported Hillary over Trump'. Those two claims are what the Republican base was hoping for. ian hacktorp Posted June 14, 2018 #19 Share Posted June 14, 2018 Keep in mind also that the OIG report officially cracks open (for the first time) the existence of the Weiner laptop as a source of investigative evidence. If statements by the NYPD concerning the full depth of the contents of that laptop are to be believed, there will soon be an avalanche of damning material coming that will make bias by FBI and DOJ seem almost insignificant by comparison.
