Mysterious Illness

Hello,

Most of UM visitors come here looking for answers to explainable things.  Well, i thought I will share this experience with you; your input is welcomed.

I have a very close relative who lost her vision one day while she was driving home from work.    She has to stop driving and call her brother as her vision was getting blurry and couldn't see.   It's been approximately two years since then and her vision comes and go, on and off.  The specialists has done several testing and they can't still find a diagnosis.  They have treat it as an infection, they have tried chemotherapy and she recently went under cataracts surgery due to treatments caused cataracts.

She is only 30 years old and had a healthy life until this event.   Recently, before the surgery was done, she asked God to at least allow her to see her 18 years old son graduate High School.  She was able to partially see him with the eye recently operated.  I could feel her happiness through her text messages; she was so happy.

Experiences like this make me think and appreciate what I have today.  I don't think I could ever be able to understand why some of us are truly blessed and some others aren't that lucky.    I keep sending my healing energy to her since she lives a little far and I don't get to see her.

Some "things" don't have explanation...

They don't have an explanation or you don't want there to be one?

How has sending your healing energy worked out?

:rolleyes:Google is your friend. Even the quick search I did came back with things such as blood pressure, diabetes, and glaucoma. All being a possible cause.

Plenty of "things" have an explanation, you just have to be open minded enough to look for realistic answers.

Sorry, can not believe this, i do not think you have the full story.

They could nit find a diagnosis and yet she had chemotherapy???

Why was she having chemotherapy?...which can cause eye problems. But it is posible she has not told you everything.

Also it is posible she had one of the factors listed below.

Quote

Who is at risk for cataract?

The risk of cataract increases as you get older. Other risk factors for cataract include:

Sorry, you are missing a lot out of this, i believe because you were not told everything.

I believe that doctors are more educated in the matter than I do.   All those illnesses/conditions has been ruled out; she doesn't have any of those.

Hello @freetoroam,

I understand why it could be hard to believe.   I also believe that scientists and doctors like to experiment and try treatments for illnesses that aren't  too common or are totally new to them.   It happens more often than we think.

For example:  why would a doctor inject Botox in a patient to treat migraine when it was invented for aesthetic use?

This is a sad story Ive, and how odd that it comes and goes!

Not sure what to even offer as a guess :(.

You are quite right, though, that we need to be glad for what we have and life as we know it can change real quick :/

Because of its nerve blocking  effects.

Please read the whole article:

due to its nerve-blocking effects, Botox also has a role in treating certain medical conditions.

With all due respect, that is how they find cures.

Scientists and doctors have been experimenting and trying new treatments for years, that is certainly no secret.

If it were not for the experiments we would not have the cures.

I still think you do not know the whole story about your friend. Why was she recieving chemotherapy?

Same reason why they could be using chemotherapy to treat her case.  They are experimenting.

Hi,

I don't know why I wouldn't want to know the explanation.

No, you are guessing because you do not know the reason.

I do not get what you are implying, there has to be a reason why they did this. It would not be as an experiment.

Chemotherapy does cause eye problems...doctors know this and would have pointed this out to your friend prior to treatment.

Eye changes are most likely to happen with chemotherapy drugs or biological therapy drugs.

I will be honest with you  and let you know i would rather not continue this as i believe you are not fully aware of the whole story with your relative.

You say she lives far and you do not get to see her, think about this....are you getting information from her regularly or from someone else?

Not likely. Chemo is for cancer patients.

First up, an apology in advance, and to the OP, I'm truly not having a go at you..   But the link below is scarily ontopic..

If you are even a bit religious or offended by profanity, do NOT click on the link below.  It is profane, viciously insulting to religion, full of sarcasm ... and if you're anything like me  .....   absolutely hilarious.

From the amazing Tim Minchin, 12 minutes long, (Not Suitable For Work):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JipYDDXo5C0

(you were warned..)

Added..  a classic quote from that video:

Quote

I don't want people to think that I spend my life doing my best to strip away anything that gives other people joy.... That's my job, that's not my life....
