Technicians who arrived to fix a malfunctioning cash machine in the Indian state of Assam got a shock when they opened it up.

Notes worth more than 1.2m rupees (£13,300; $17,600) had been shredded - and the suspected culprits are rats.

Police said the rodents probably entered the machine through a hole for wiring, the Hindustan Times reported.

Must have been some tasty paper and ink.  I wonder if the rat smelled food from the human's handling the money.  I had a rat in my basement that ate plaster.  Unless the note pigmetns used asenic in the formulations, the rat had himself a safe and expensive dining experience.

I wonder what did kill him, the ink?   Like they say, you can't eat money.
