UM-Bot Posted July 2, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2018 An extrasolar world 500 light years away could be the most promising place yet to look for alien life. https://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/news/319320/kepler-186f-is-more-habitable-than-we-thought 2
DirtyDocMartens Posted July 2, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2018 So how would we actually detect life there?
Woodwose Posted July 2, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 2, 2018 Apologies if this is a daft question, but why can't we point Hubble at this world and just look to see if its green/blue like earth? surely it's important enough to warrant the time.

How come Hubble's pictures of galaxies billions of light years away are so beautifully detailed, yet the pictures of Pluto, which is so much closer, are just little blobs? 3

But, if technology advances enough, we at least now know one great place to look.
AllPossible Posted July 2, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 2, 2018 The issue is that yes we can see into the past with our telescopes but too reach a solar system 500 miles away would mean to aim a radio telescope at that planet & send every signal possible. Afterwards when they recieve the signal in 500+ years we will have destroyed ourselves & they will have the space exploration technology to come & conquer us like planet of the apes reversed
