Police were on the small balcony at the top of the pedestal. It isn't very wide. It would have been a bad fall. I think the pedestal from the bottom door to the balcony is 100' but I'm not sure. Do people realize that statue represents the millions of people who came here LEGALLY and didn't use children for battering rams to breach the border? And they came from everywhere to escape famine and oppression. It was good enough for my immigrant ancestors and it's good enough for them. I also found a few interesting facts. Well, she SAID she was going to stay up there until "all the children were freed" or some such. I say they should have left her to see if she really meant it. If she did and starved to death, then they could have just bronzed over her body and sort of included it as part of the statue.
