Israel "declares war"

It appears that Israel passed a law a few days ago that withholds certain tax payments to the Palestinian Authority, for so long as the latter continues to give financial rewards to all Palestinians (or their families) who where imprisoned for killing Jews.

The US has threatened something similar.  And so has that other infamous Racist Fascist Zionist Puppet State.... ... umm.. .. Australia.

In response, the PA has considered this a deceleration of war from the nations involved.

So now Australia is at war with the Palestinians ? Presumably all of the breweries will be nationalised and put on a war footing, and the National Cricket Team is on a 24-hour readiness standby for deployment !

Maybe they'll come to the table and actually negotiate soon.

What would the beloved country have to do for the usual people to ever question, or criticize, even in the very mildest way, anything it does when it gets away, literally, with murder every day? If murder isn't enough, what might be?

If - by "beloved country" - you are referring to Australia, then there are MANY things they can do that is worse than murder.

Consider the way their Cricket team brutalised us recently ! And don't START me on the whole Vegemite thing !

Yeah, good try. :sleepy: Australia has nothing to do with this. Israel was in accord to repay the victims of their attacks and they're reneging on it, nothing new really and similar to the promises they made for decades that they would stop building settlements in the West Bank.  Never happened, never stopped, .  Subsequently, if the PA wasn't paying the victims then, I agree, they should be held accountable.

According to the article, in doubt, Australia simply stopped the aid. They were never involved in murdering any Palestinians, so they haven't reneged on anything.

First. can you cite this accord?  Second, this action is about withholding (by placing in escrow) the sum that the PA pays to the families of Palestinians that kill Israelis.  This payment system provides an incentive for violence.  If they stop paying them, they get the money back from the escrow account.

It's funny how you Poms get all cocky when you start winning something after we battered you for decades in all sorts of sports.  Actually, maybe we've never beaten the invincible English Darts Team, if you call that a sport.  Geez, go Croatia otherwise we'll never hear the end of it if you guys get in the final. :P

It's not an Accord, Israel was "in accord".  Apparently (and I'm only going off what I read in the article) Israel was allocating tax funds to the Palestinian victims of Israeli attacks through the PA.  Netanyahu has grown an extra pair now that Trump has taken sides and is trying to legislate a change.  Typical.

From the article:

On Tuesday, the Knesset’s passed of a law that would deduct payments the Palestinian Authority makes to Palestinian prisoners in Israel and their families from the taxes Israel collects from its citizens and passes on to the PA.

The tax money is being used by the PA to reward violence against Israelis.  This has nothing to do with Israel breaking any agreement to pay reparations to the PA for anything.

Well apparently Palestinians partly agree with you. So I suppose the PA and PLO have shown their true colours.  Not that this makes Netanyahu a righteous pacifist.  Inch by inch he'll achieve his final aspiration for a Greater Israel.

A public opinion poll commissioned by The Washington Institute for Near East Policy in June, 2017 showed that two-thirds of Palestinians polled disagreed with the PA's policy, saying that Palestinian prisoners and their families do not deserve extra payments on account of their "armed operations", but should instead be given regular social benefits like other Palestinians.

So, actually reading through this, the PA collects taxes from Palestinians which the Israeli Govt withholds 75% of and repays the PA a quota on a monthly basis. In return, Israel supplies the Palestinians with electricity and other necessities which is only fair considering they are occupying the State of Palestine and furthermore the Paris protocol substantially merged the Palestinian Economy into the Israeli. In accordance, Israel forces all imports into Palestine (and exports from) to go via Israel and charges a VAT on all foreign imports consumed in Palestine.  Taxes from Israeli's (settlers) living in the occupied Palestinian territories ONLY go into the coffers of the State of Israel.

So basically Israel is giving the Palestinians nothing but actually withholding their tax revenues at will.  The PA is the authorised elected government and is "disposing" some of this revenue to the Martyr's Fund as an intent to pay victims of Israeli violence.  Apparently some of it went to the family of a terrorist and therefore Israel decided to pass this Law which allows them to "confiscate" money that really belongs to the Palestinians under the basis the PA is funding terrorism.

LMAO, it's a bit different from the way Roofy tried to sell it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_Authority_Martyrs_Fund

The intent of that fund has nothing whatever to do with general welfare for Palestinians who are killed as a result of Israeli fire during exchanges between Israel and Hamas.  Its sole purpose is to pay "martyrs" who die, are wounded or imprisoned while striking at Israel.

ETA - The only way the Palestinian leadership will ever negotiate a settlement to this conflict is if they are pressured to do.  $ is the key to that.

Well, the link you provided is the same I provided two posts earlier and in which Abbas states:

The question of whether militants from all political factions will receive such payments from the PA has been highly contested within Palestinian society, with President Mahmoud Abbas withdrawing, then in 2009 restoring, such payments for prisoners belonging to the PLO, but the government claims that it does not make such payments to families of prisoners belonging to Hamas or Islamic Jihad.

It's obvious you're peddling the Zionist version similarly to Trump who has already chosen which flag to fly, Australia who's politicians jump at the snap of US Congress fingers and the Jerusalem Centre for Public Affairs who left out the word "Biased" after the "for".  While the Washington Post seem to be more analytical and question the different interpretation of the word "terrorist" by Israel and the Palestinians.  For example "striking at Israel" could be interpreted by the Israeli's as someone throwing stones after the IDF has bulldozed their house and therefore classified as a terrorist (by Israel).

I don't know what Right Israel has to withhold Palestinian funds first of all and they're doing it based on suspicions.  Also why would Palestinian leadership negotiate a settlement while settlers are still occupying their land?

Then let them continue in their misery.  You can't fix stupid, after all.  There is never going to be a solution of this issue that leaves EITHER SIDE completely happy.  Israel will never be allowed by the international community to simply remove these people from the region and the Palestinians are never going to defeat the Jews and remove them from the land either so compromise is the only answer short of continuing the misery of the status quo.
