Thanks for the explanation.

I don't know much about this to be honest, but I assumed that it was something both parties did.

Or is that practice exclusive to the Democrats?

She doesn't know.  She tries to play both sides of the fence on purpose, but makes it clear what her intentions are.  We have a President flying to states on the taxpayer dime to campaign, half the time for people who don't even support him, and she finds an issue with people from different states campaigning for their own party.  She'll only chide one side though.

As far as I know, it's not been a regular practice. Seeing Hollywood stars make commercials about local elections in the southern US on who they endorse isn't something I've ever seen done before.

You can't stand it because I'm truly someone who is the middle of the road. Don't tell me I don't take the left side when it comes to social issues.

I can't stand it because you are middle of the road?  That makes no sense.  I support many Republicans, and would have voted for one last election.  Your history is public, you can look at your posts and see what you defend.  You are nowhere near middle of the road, although, you try to play that game.

I genuinely don't see what the problem is.

Isn't candidate endorsement/support the right of every American?

Yes, but there is a reason we have the Electoral College. So the majority metro areas can't outvote the sparsely populated farming areas of the US. Every region has different priorities and inner city populations have different needs than the fly over states.

Actually, it is a waste of money...as has been proven lately. Small towns, especially, hate outsiders advising them how to vote. They know what they want and need. It offends them and frankly it hasn't been working.

Absolutely, but it’s a two-way street.  You go somewhere and endorse a message that the audience doesn’t appreciate, then it could go badly.  Case-in-point is Robert De Niro’s antics has all but ended his carrer.

A lot of Hollywood has been silently boycotted lately. I've never heard so many people quietly tell me they won't see something because of the star's political stance. They aren't loud and proud about it though. Mamma Mia 2 is the newest one. We'll see.

You know, if Putin was responsible for getting Trump elected, it was because Putin understood the needs and listened to the American people better than  the Democrats have.  Putin has been good for America.

I know you must be kidding about this.  Putin is Russia first all the way after Putin first.  You can google his net worth, it seems to be between 40 billion and 200 billion. He cares nothing about the American people and only enough about Russians to keep them in check. Raven, he is not sympathetic to the plight of the shrinking American middle class.  He sees them as sheep with a little fleece left to shear.  You can hate the Democrats, but don't let it blind you to other serious threats.

It appears to me that both sides have vocal supporters they would like to sweep under the carpet.

Further compounding the issue is that members of both parties don't always agree on an agenda or message. I'm not suggesting that they have to, but bickering  factions within a party only result in garbled, and very confusing messaging. It becomes an even bigger mess when supporters break ranks with each other and pick one message over another.

So yes, I agree, it can go badly.

Can we apply this to outsiders interfering with local elections from other US states?

Including the Koch brothers and other dark money?  If it was everybody, that would be good.  Let local be local.

Let's lay all the cards on the table with who is interfering in what.

Keep in mind, the people who pay union dues have no say in what their money is being donated to.

God, this is so true. After years of reading her defend Republicans while slating Dems, I couldn't believe it when she started trying to say she was liberal.

I'm on that bus.  I haven't watched two new movies in the last 3 years.  Screw them.  They don't need my $ and I don't need their propaganda

as an Australian I can’t imagine Trump is gonna leave any worthwhile legacy in the West. scary to think Ray that someone so unqualified for office is in office. If I was a Russian I’d make an icon in Trumps image, light a candle every night.

Yet half of Americans who voted, voted for him.  Do you imagine that tens of millions of Americans are somehow daft or deluded?

After all these years then, you should know I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal. If someone openly puts out misinformation I do correct it. I know you can't show me railing constantly against Obama. His ACA insurance policy and a few other of his decisions...yes, like any other president. I also hated that Trump involved us in Syria and was open about it. I forget that was one of the few times Democrats applauded him though.

Yes why don't actors just stick to their job of acting... when they get all political and preachy it spoils their ability
to do their real job...  for them to be successful we have to suspend belief and get absorbed in the characters they
play... I find it harder to do that now with actors like Robert De Niro , Meryl Streep etc ---

I also understand why people would boycott their movies to punish them for over stepping the mark - and using
their fame to try and demonize and destroy a democratically elected President ... thereby disrespecting all the people
who voted for said president..so why should those disrespected people put any money in their direction...

That's a false narrative. Saint Barack had eight years to improve and strengthen our economy, but he failed. He was a man of eloquent words, but Trump is a man of constructive acts. Actions speak louder than words. I'll be bipartisan and say that both Bush and Saint Barack were horrid for our country. Trump must deal with sixteen years of downward trends. He also has to contend with a huge plot to end his presidency by any means necessary. He has many faults, but he serves the American people instead of the entrenched establishment.

is this satirical or are you serious`?

If you are seious. Then let me tell you that Obama did fight the symptoms but the causes were never battled. But Trump does not even do this. He uses strategies which were not just proven false by history over and over. No they are destructive as well. So they will accelerate this spiral. You will see. Also,  I've never been a fan of Obama. He introduced more control, he didn't stop torture and his economic measures were too superficial. However, compared to Trump he is truly an enlightend beeing. And this says more about Trump than Obama.

That said, It is quite astonishing what people all around the world, not just the USA are fabricateing in 2018: I really hope WW3 comes, because this would be better than what will come if this goes on. (Yes I have reached that point)

@Hollywood

It is quite funny to rebell against Hollywood as it is the propaganda machine which influances the whole world and which creates the image of the USA around the world and with this comes power. Secondly, Califronia (west coast-liberal states) and New York, Boston..etc are the states which bring the money. If these "countries" stand ion their own, then the USA will be a country of farmers or backward people. It propably would become a third world country, or dependent on those free states. Yes I know Texans, the Midwest and all those other farmerstates are proud of themselves and their "routes" and blabla but you cannot buy anything with this :) .

Except, these most "progressive" cities have the worst unemployment, homelessness and crime rates in the US. Money doesn't flow from state to state. They keep their own tax earnings and they have some of the highest taxes in the US. Yet the rest of us are backwards.

This thinking would then disqualify anyone outside of the government from criticizing or shining a light on wrong doings by those in power.

This sentiment only grew because conservatives realized they were losing a popularity contest. So, they created the myth that you shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion if you're a famous actor or athlete. They do this in an attempt to brainwash people into ignoring those trying to point fingers at their ridiculousness and hypocrisy. But, the second anyone even marginally famous takes their side they get plastered all over every conservative function and television show you can find.

When do you presume this happened? Recently? Because I quit watching award shows, most talk shows and TV news about fifteen years ago. When I watch TV I want to be entertained and not hear the constant preaching, regardless of side.
