Still Waters Posted July 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2018 A woman had a lucky escape after rats gnawed through the brake hoses of her car, almost leading to a crash in Edinburgh. Janet Reid, 65, was driving with her 14-year-old grandson when her brakes failed as she entered Loanhead roundabout. It was only because her father had taught her how to slow down using the car's gears that she avoided a crash. She said mechanics later found rat hairs stuck to the damaged hoses. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-44860311
The Caspian Hare Posted July 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2018 Around here it's the woodchucks, they chew the transmission lines that have some kind of soy substance on them
.ZZ. Posted July 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2018 (edited) I saw this story yesterday from another source and they said they chewed through the "brake cables" odd considering that cables are not used under that hood of that car. To add, rubber brake hoses are not allowed under the hoods of any cars with which I am familiar. They must be steel for safety and durability. The car had to be sitting for quite a while for a rat to be chewing under a wheel. Like months. 39 minutes ago, The Caspian Hare said: Around here it's the woodchucks, they chew the transmission lines that have some kind of soy substance on them The whistle pigs here drink the spilled bio-diesel but since it still has some real diesel in it you find them dead.

Yep, cars use rubber brake flex hoses at the wheels that steer. Maybe I'm just a stickler for the "under the hood" description.

It wouldn't of been a emergency brake cable because they are to thick and coming off the master cylinder and going to the wheels they are steel..... Glad I can use my ASE somewhere....

I'm calling B.S on the rat theory.

Mine expired long ago, as you know you have to re-certify every few years. Metal chewing rats I have yet to encounter! To add, you correctly stated the the only "brake cables" are for the E-brake. So if your ASE why Harleys? Glutton for punishment?
