susieice Posted July 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2018 (edited) Breaking news is just coming on TV about a major tornado that's hit Marshalltown, Iowa with catastrophic damage. Bad news is expected to come out of this. Several other towns have been hit also. Here's hoping the damage is just to things and the people are alright....Crap! There's a survey before you can read the link. Looking for another one. https://www.omaha.com/news/iowa/reports-of-catastrophic-damage-after-surprising-tornadoes-form-over-iowa/article_abacbaef-8fac-5c2c-ae6b-875f4c021834.html Was able to open it without the survey. No one else has it on their websites yet. Edited July 19, 2018 by susieice 1 2

susieice Posted July 19, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted July 19, 2018 Just now, and then said: Do they normally have such extreme weather this early/late in the seasons? ABC World News Tonight said it has something to do with an abnormally strong jet stream. Came on as breaking news. Glad that first link from Omaha decided to open because I can't find anything else right now. Not up on websites yet.
susieice Posted July 19, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted July 19, 2018 (edited) Just found this one. The National Weather Service was taken totally by surprise. It seems 4 super cells formed and they were not expected. They are still under a severe weather threat until 7-8 pm tonight. This reports damage in other towns. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/2018/07/19/iowa-weather-national-weather-service-surprised-tornado-thunderstorm-damage-bondurant-pella-central/804088002/ Edited July 19, 2018 by susieice

susieice Posted July 19, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted July 19, 2018 (edited) KCCI has a live link going. This doesn't look good. I hope everyone is alright. http://www.kcci.com/article/central-iowa-ripe-for-storm-chances/22444689 There's a couple of them going as you scroll down the page. Injuries have been reported in Pella. A Vermeer plant was hit there and there is also a report of a gas leak at the plant. Edited July 19, 2018 by susieice

susieice Posted July 20, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted July 20, 2018 More news is being posted now. Injuries have been reported but saw nothing stating there were any deaths. Houses and cars have been destroyed. Thinking about all the people who were impacted by this today. This is devastating. https://weather.com/safety/tornado/news/2018-07-19-severe-storms-tornado-damage-midwest
