It's just weird because it's way too huge for a maggot (I mean it doesn't appear to be a large animal, just freaking large for a non-tropical insect larva and in comparison to others of its species) The "tail" is some sort of organ they use to breath while under water. The brains and nerves system aren't like ours and easily removed and switched. They removed a brain from a full size silkworm and replaced it with one from a smaller catapiller. The body grew even bigger, whereas the brain from the bigger one in the smaller body caused the body to keep its size and pupate. Therefore I think that maggot may have a fault connected to its brain. If its a genetic fault then is possible the mother has laid eggs elsewhere and there are more of them. Why we don't see giant insects today is because of the way their bodies absorb oxygen from the air via capillaries and the percent of oxygen in the atmosphere. 21%. However before the dinosaurs appeared the ratio was 30% and some insects were gigantic. A dragonfly with a wingspan of 1 metre or a millipede 2 metres long. I expect some genetic engineering scientist will give them lungs one day and we'll have Locasts the size of Kangaroos hopping around the place. However trained ants the size of a bulldozer would be a useful work animal. Have a few in every loading depot. The races would be good too.
