The $1.5 billion Parker Solar Probe will be the first NASA science mission to launch aboard one of United Launch Alliance's (ULA) Delta IV Heavy rockets, and Saturday's launch will be the 10th launch using that type of rocket, according to Scott Messer, NASA's program manager for ULA launches. "This thing goes like nothing has ever gone before," Messer said of the massive rocket, the second most powerful after SpaceX's new Falcon Heavy.

Parker Solar Probe: Nasa delays mission to unlock Sun's mysteries

US space agency Nasa has delayed its mission to send a satellite closer to the Sun than any before.

The Parker Solar Probe was set to launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida on Saturday, but last-minute investigations have delayed it for 24 hours.

It is now scheduled to blast off - on board the mammoth Delta-IV Heavy rocket - on Sunday morning.

The launch has gone well. The Parker Solar Probe has deployed it's solar panels and is on it's way to the first of it's fly bys of Venus before it's close encounters with the Sun.

Eugene Parker was there to watch the launch live.  This may be the first time a living person has ever watched a spacecraft that was named after them, launch
