How many people do you think we can pack onto the surface of the Planet?

Currently there's plenty of room. We could all have a square meter on Iceland.
The problem is our consumption.

Researchers in the UK have achieved a significant milestone in their quest to reverse the aging process.

surely they mean stopping the aging process or slowing down?

I'd like to bet that:

a ) It will be ridiculously expensive if and when available, and

b ) It won't be given willy-nilly to just 'anyone'. There will be a certain pecking order among the echelon way before your average Joe.

Damn, I'm usually void of tin-hat material but this one's got me Suspicious.gif

Hmmm... May be the movie "In Time" was not all that stupid. People think they have enough intelligence to control population, forgetting meanwhile that procreation is the meaning of life for every species on our planet, including ourselves, and it's burned in every particle of our flesh. It's all about ecological balance, food resources and consumption, that's why cells die. Every species which didn't follow this rule became extinct.

Reversing aging has already been achieved (mainly in mice):

1. Stitch the blood vessels of a young and old mouse together - The young mouse rapidly ages over a couple of weeks and the old one gets younger. Their biological age comes to rest someone in the middle of both ages. Tests are currently underway to try it on humans and it is believed to all be down to the levels of one protein in the blood.

2. Population statistics shows that people who primarily eat younger animals live longer. Some relation to the above? Anybody fancy becoming a vampire? Wait... weren't they immortal in myths? lol.

3. There is a mouse vaccine which causes their immune system to kill of senescent cells. It is confirmed to work on human cells too but hasn't been injected into a person yet due to cancer fears. It targets P53 genes on cell surfaces which are active as a tumour suppressors in senescent cells.

4. It is known that starving mice for a few days (to empty their digestive tracts), then feeding them red onions, then giving them a red hot bath 6 hours later, makes their senescent cells self-destruct. Why? Heat Shock Proteins repair damage to heat inside of cells and the red onion pigment blocks their production in and only in senescent cells. So those cells self-destruct. That red pigment only makes it into the blood stream in the absence of food protein in the intestines. Fountain of Youth anybody? You need to starve yourself and eat red onions before you get into the hot spring/bath though.

5. Vitamin B3 turns on DNA repair mechanisms. Ordinary Nicotinamide does it a little in small doses with anything larger turning off those repair mechanisms. Niacin (as far as we know) has no turn off limit but will cause flushing at high doses. Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) has no turn off limit and doesnt cause flushing. Nicotinamide nucleotide (NMN) has no turn off limited and doesnt cause flushing. NR and NMN cannot be found in food in sufficient quantities and the supplements are expensive. You`d need about 20 grams per day for a week to completely de-age. Good look trying to eat 20g of Niacin, a lot of people get flushing at 250mg. There is another option with a similar compound to Vitamin B3 (which works in the same mechanisms) being found in substantial amounts in coffee - Quinolinic Acid. Its neurotoxic and causes mental health problems in high doses, but you could in principle be eating 20 teaspoons of coffee granules spread throughout a day to de-age yourself. Just dont go gaga on us during that week and please use the decafe.

There is overpopulation on our planet now, how could we possibly support a population that never dies?  Why would anyone wish to live forever?  Look around at the world situations today; it's only going to get worse.  More people, more hate.

Let me guess, the person who wants to limit the population is the one that's spreading love; not hate.

I don't know if I want anyone shooting my cells full of H2S.  That stuff is highly toxic.  It's a strong reducing agent.  Since ageing is thought off as an oxidation process, I can see how it can stop the process for a while, but reverse it?  If if works, someone will be rich in a very short time.
