ICE arrested a man driving his pregnant wife to give birth. She drove herself to the hospital.

Maria del Carmen Venegas was on her way to deliver a baby boy, her fifth child, by Caesarean section in a planned operation Wednesday afternoon. Her husband, Joel Arrona-Lara, was driving her car to the hospital.

Two SUVs swooped in to block the vehicle at a San Bernardino, Calif., gas station. They belonged to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the agents asked for Venegas’s identification, she later told CBS Los Angeles. She complied. The agents also asked for Arrona-Lara’s identification.

The couple was in a hurry when they left, and his ID was at home, Venegas told Univision affiliate KMEX. The agents searched the car and led Arrona-Lara away in handcuffs, leaving his wife frantic.

****

Wow!

Un freakin believable!!

What a crime of injustice!

...

Hold on a second...

.... Actually read the full wapo 'news' article...

"

On Saturday afternoon, officials released previously undisclosed details about Arrona-Lara’s arrest. He is a Mexican national wanted in Mexico under a warrant issued for homicide charges and has been detained pending removal proceedings, according to a statement by ICE spokeswoman Lori Haley.

The homicide warrant brought the attention of agents, according to Haley. ICE did not provide details about the homicide that Arrona-Lara is accused in.

After her husband was detained, Venegas drove herself to the hospital and delivered her baby, she told local media. Surveillance video from inside the store shows her crying and distraught."

We are at the stage where people fall for inflammatory headlines. I am one now to be more suspicious than believing of the image presented in the headlines. A headline like that immediately produces a suspicion of left-wing bias in me given my overall impression of the place of today's media on the immigration issue.

An evil Trump-led ICE is the image that sells best right now.

Does this mean you're becoming skeptical?

PapaG is always sceptical of what those in authority say.

I always have been skeptical. I examine and consider the evidence.

Your misuse of the word 'skeptical' turns it into 'ant-paranormal'. That, I am still not.

Had to get out in front of that headline, eh?

Just an aside, though...

why does it matter to you?

Why do you care so much about what's going on with US immigration?

Why does Trump seem to have such a hold on you?

I see you posting all the time singing his praises so much...calling him a King...and I wonder why that is.

Are ya secretly American or do you just hate us so much that you're in glee at the cluster that is our nation right now?

Lol.

What is wrong wth U.S immigration?

Canada and all the Nordic countires, that everyone praises so often, have a much stricter immigration system then us. It is more difficult to become a citizen in Canada/Nordic nations then in the U.S.

So tell me, what is wrong with U.S  immigration?

Good on law enforcement. We don't let homicide suspects freely roam American cities whether a citizen or illegal.

Not a lot. That's why net immigration has been down and steadily falling for decades. It's just an easy boogeyman for people in flyover states.

Those who use the power of the press to twist facts into hate should be held accountable for the real damage they are doing in this nation.  They are working from within to divide us and weaken America.  Those who own and direct this flood of hateful propaganda are untouchable but those who feed at their trough and do their dirty work are not.  They need to be shamed, publicly for what they are doing.  They should be shunned, socially and their newsrooms picketed.  There are legal, non-violent ways to resist this misuse of our First Amendment by corporate globalists and they must be exercised or it will only continue getting worse.  If good, respectable people in local communities will take this stand, then there just might be an awakening in the general public of where this is heading and cooler heads can prevail.

I live in one of those states, proudly.  If there's not a lot wrong with our immigration system, perhaps you'd be willing to take the 25,000 illegals that are slated to be put in "temporary and austere" camps 10 miles from my home, and welcome them into your neighborhood?  Our system is working so well that this is just a portion of those waiting for processing.  Mostly young men and a few women and children.  Most with no language skills and no desire to either learn English or become Americans.

Summer along the coast has 90+ degree temps from May to September and the added bonus of potential hurricanes from June to October.  These tent cities will be less than 5 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and we were told that they'd be temporary so that no air conditioning would be needed.  I'd feel bad leaving my dogs out in that kind of misery.  So you can spout your numbers all you like.  My little part of the world KNOWS the reality of what's going on and if these people are forced on us, longterm, there will be trouble.  There are tens of millions of people living south of the U.S. in squalor, crime and even starvation.  How many are we supposed to absorb?  When is it enough?  Do we do as our politicians seem to desire and just open the borders and allow anyone in without vetting for criminal or terror ties?  How about screening for diseases?  I guess they'll stop coming when the host becomes as destitute and squalid as their home country and it's no longer worth the effort to make the trip.

I think the core of the headline here is that the whole sordid situation was not handled as well as some might hope for, a woman was in distress, about to give birth, arrest the fugitive by all means, but at least spare some thought to ensure that the woman and her unborn child is safely arrived at the destination/s, she should not have been left is such a lurch. Thankfully she arrived safely and her child safely delivered too. They were not criminals. its just common sense.

Come to think of it, if this had ended any other way near tragically, it would have been more than a black eye for ICE

If you're trying to get me to empathize, you're barking up the wrong tree. I do not care about other people, immigrant or not.

Fact is that immigration numbers are and have been trending down.

No??? She wasn't in labor either. It was a prescheduled C-section which means the delivery was planned for that date.

A man driving his pregnant wife to the hospital for a scheduled C-section was detained by ICE agents when he went to get gas at a nearby station in San Bernardino.

On Saturday, ICE said the man was detained because of an outstanding warrant in Mexico on homicide charges.

I was referring to the ( they ) pregnant woman and her yet to be delivered child ... it was a birth of a child, for a woman, that should not be a criminality

The guy they arrested is here illegally in United States and has a warrant out of his arrest in Mexico for MURDER. I have no sympathy for murders, yes it sucks for the wife, but this man has killed another person and has fled to United States to avoid prosecution for murdering another person.

They didn't mention much on her getting to the hospital.   She may have told them that she was fine to drive.   They may have offered an escort.   It is silly to assume.

I think, given she wasn't done for aiding and abetting a wanted fugitive, she should be thankful all she had to do was driver herself to the hospital.
It could have been much worse for her.

It was a scheduled procedure.  She had chosen to have a Caesarian.  A small point to many but it bears clarifying since it is seminal to the narrative of how evil ICE is...

Sure, carry on, if you say ICE is doing a fine job, I mean who am I to say otherwise, after it is your country that their actions represents for all posterity

You are a misguided fellow.    All ICE employees are not evil people who would never help someone out.
