Just like sightings of Bigfoot and Nessie, Etc have decreased. Everybody has a camera in their pockets at all times.

It's time for these people to start accepting a harsh reality.

Who are "these people", and what is this "harsh reality" they have to start accepting ?

The number of people reporting sightings of UFOs has been in sharp decline and nobody is quite sure why.

I think the decline is because of this scenario:

If you say you've seen an alien spacecraft, people want to see photos. Show them pictures, and they say it's all Photoshopped!

Ufology is as good as over, IMHO.

Only scince 2014?

I would have thought they have been in decline scince the mid 80s. I didn't think many people still put stock in little green men these days.

They do in the US...The US leads the world in reported UFO sightings.

That's not really true, some photos have been deemed genuine, but could be anything, normally a pixelated blob. Chances are that if there was really something like an alien spaceship I honestly think it would attract a lot of attention and have corroborating proof that would be overwhelming, not a tiny pixelated blob in a single photo.

And if you think about it, anything going through space has to be big. Really big. It's not exactly a 12 hour flight across space. Reports of the little sports model saucers and such are impractical for such travel, and amateur astronomers would see a huge mothership in orbit, logically it just hasn't happened yet.

Can one read these reports though?

I've seen stuff like this actual example from reports considered 'genuine'.

UFO believers and that fact that there aren't any.

That is painfully obvious.

It is neither obvious, nor painful, but it causes me to think whatever these things are, has no prosaic explanation. Don't assume because none have been pinned down for inspection, they are not there, they may be something we don't understand, nor are even capable of understanding.

Well it does not say anything about how genuine the reports are but I see what your saying and it makes sense.

the good ol' saying:

the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence

needs to change after all this time! IMO, after 80+ years of naff all it's only logical to assume there's nothing there!

if there is then all the highly intelligent investigators would have something to show for it by now; apart from books/ documentaries & people paying hard earned cash to dribble over ufologists lectures/ talks- listening to them produce F-all...   oh joy:sleepy:

For all we know, they could belong to an order of reality, completely unknown to us. They don't fit your framework, they therefore can't exist, is a poor argument.

That is kind of what some speculate the moon is, a base of operations, an observatory of earth if you will,  they take cargo and supplies in and fly out of the dark side.

Others believe that there are huge complexes on the ocean floor that serve the same purpose and easily hidden from human view.

Who's 'they'? The non-existent Alien visitor's no one has ever produced any real evidence for? If you want to believe in something based on faith, there are loads of other more successful religions.

I don't believe in much at all, "on faith" but the "they" in this instance is not a reference to "aliens", I make no assumptions about what the innumerable sightings may be of, but I don't have any faith at all in the idea they are not real.

if they are completely unknown to us then how can you refer to them in this debate?

I said "an order of reality" unknown to us, not that the sightings are unknown to us, they are in fact a commonplace.

Perhaps the aliens have finished the scouting mission, and gone home ?

radio waves were unknown to us not that long ago, I'm sure a primitive would have no idea what the hell was going on, if they could hear human sounds coming out of a radio receiver. Perhaps we are the primitives in this scenario, but really what kind of visible phenomenon can avoid "capture", even good photo capture, with 100% strike rate ? It is one we cannot fathom, not one that does not exist. If I had to guess, I'd say it isn't "space aliens", it is something altogether stranger than that.

the major flaw here is someone will try to explain what it is= ya know= the person with the radio....

or are you suggesting someone find an outback primitive tribe, set up the speakers & secretly watch their reaction?

maybe this is exactly what this possible unknown order of reality is doing to us humans? if so then why? any ideas?

I think the bolded is closer to what Habitat was alluding to.

Possible that we need to create an even wider gap int he evolutionary trail....ie. its like a human trying to explain the Radio waves to a primate.....

as for the last speculative part...I do enough speculating at the casino so will leave it to habitat to respond :)

edit to add: as for the OP- I think its multi faceted with various things working both directions...ie one would like to think that ultimately we have become better at identifying strange 'lights' even though there are likely much more of them (due to drones, additional craft etc)

They could be imaginary. Why not?

There have been many sightings with multiple witnesses, I don't credit "mass hallucinations" for a second. I have no clue what they are, but defaulting to aliens, is just a dumb guess. With the gyrations, incredible manoeuvres and accelerations so often reported, anything resembling living tissue "on board", would be little more than mush.
