[Merged] Kavanaugh Hearing

Senate leaders found a way to let Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing continue into the night, after a brief floor clash between Republicans and Democrats.

Earlier, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., had objected to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s request for the committee to continue meeting after 2 p.m.

But McConnell, using a parliamentary maneuver, adjourned the Senate for the day -- because commitees can meet as long as they like when the Senate is not in session.

The clash between the parties came as Kavanaugh, President Trump’s pick to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court, appeared for the second day of his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. It’s the first day senators have to question Kavanaugh.

Democrats did away with the need super majority to appoint a supreme court justice to the bench, this action itself was an power grab by Democrats to place in a partisan supreme court judge in effort to shape the future of this nation. This action backfires on them today spectacularly and leaving them licking their wounds. If I didn't believe in Karma, I believe in it now. Now it only takes a simple majority to appoint a supreme court justice to the bench, meaning as long as Trump is president and Republicans hold the simple majority, they could easily replace all the judges with Republican supreme court justices. The judges on the bench at the moment are 80+ years old and has a very high chance of dying during Trump's terms, solidly placing the nation in the hands of Republicans for the next 30+ years. If this doesn't put on display the foresight of Democrat party, I don't know what does. Many of the youtube personalities who delve in politics warned them, removing the super majority rule will have consequences for their party and they didn't listen. This alone makes me not want to ever vote for the Democrat party because I can't trust them not to do a power grab that will erode barriers against corruption and totalitarian rule. They are making it easier for dictators to take up power in the future. I am not talking about imaginary dictators that Democrats scream about all the time aka Trump, he isn't a dictator at all. Talking about REAL dictatorship that would drag you out of your house in the dead of the night and shoot you in the head for even thinking about standing up against them. Greed of the Democrats has destroyed a very important barrier to protect the nation against totalitarian rule. Thankfully it is working out for the best as we see the Republican party evolve, taking up Classical Liberal and Libertarian views. On the flipside we are seeing the Democrats devolve into socialist totatilarians who want to censorship everyone and deperson someone if they speak up against them. I am holding out hope that the Republicans will restore the Super Majority rule sooner or later.

I find it comical that you bring up dictatorships when you have a leader who has pushed for a judge - who would be beholden to him - that very likely will be the deciding vote on whether that leader can be held responsible for crimes.

This obvious abuse by the serving President is the closest your country has ever been to a dictatorship.

Kavanaugh comes across as unlikeable to me. That aside I think there are some serious concerns regarding the documents the WH refused to release as well as with the tactics used with the 42k pages of documents which were released just 15 hours prior to the start of the hearing.

Repubs can scream about "owning libs" in this scenario but clearly they arent exactly holding the moral high ground themselves and that kind of partisanship is exactly how dictatorships take hold.

Mark Dice comes over as being a total d*** head in my opinion. Trying to be a comedian is certainly not his calling.

It seems so, frankly it's rather mind-boggling. What ever floats ones boat I guess.

Sure. I've been subscribed since he was going around trying to sell a one ounce gold coin, at the time worth like 1200 bucks, for a 50 spot and couldn't get a single buyer. Good stuff.

Now I don't watch every video, but he does have some classics. I think your dislike has less to do with him per say, and more to do with him laughing at idiots who write BS books like this one. The guy claims he has all the quotes on tape, yet the people he quoted deny it outright.

Nah, truthfully i didnt even get to any content beyond the first outbursts. Screaming guy just isnt really my thing anymore.

Of course they denied it outright, there's no risk to doing so. If Woodward was to ever release the tapes his reputation and his career would be over. He would never again gain access to the WH like he has had for the last 40+ years.

Why? He had no problem writing what is supposedly on those tapes. All he'd be doing is proving his written word was true. Seems to me it would add to his credibility.

Without proof, all I see is a guy who wrote a book he knew he could sell to half the country.

He'd be burning his sources and noone would ever trust him to not burn them again.

This isn't some fly by night hack, this isnt Omarosa, this is a man with more than 50 years of a public history exemplifying honesty and integrity in his reporting.

I knew that a circus like this would rate a thread.

... at least this bit of social media isn't accusing a Jewish-Mexican woman of flashing Kavanaugh a "white power" sign.

Orin Hatch comments on how this confirmation process has been the most through he's ever seen, and how more than double the amount of documentation has been provided for this hearing as has been the case for any other in history.

From 3 minutes in a couple of Leftist stupid loudmouth creeps (as always) try to disrupt a Senate Hearing and it goes on and on because the D.C. police are incompetent or are far-Left sympathizers. That sort of crap would not last 5 seconds in a non-political Court. There, it lasts 2.5 minutes.

Now, the Dems don't have the votes to stop him, so what is this really all about?  A chance for candidates looking at 2020 to make some noise, get noticed and get started on the endless election cycle?

What do you think of the fact that tens of thousands of these documents were only released the night before?

You are referring to a custom began by the Obama Admin. How's that turn-bout being fair play? :P

Monday was nothing but pre-preppared statements by a variety of hacks, and don't they have staffs? Don't they know anything about a guy that has been around for decades?

Its not as if anything in the world could convince any Dem to support or even stop attacking anyone that works with (or has ever worked with) the President, or his family members.

Still thinking expecting staff to read an average of 7000 words a minute and then report back (and leave time for reading those reports) in one night is possibly a tad unrealistic.

Unfortunately, they were **** so we get to be **** too is a rather uninspiring way to do politics.

The point is that there would never be enough documentation or discussion to ever change their minds because he does not agree with their worldview.  That's how they roll.  They changed the rules and opened Pandora's little box, so now they can scream and hold their breath and stomp but another decent, non-Lib judge is going on the Court for the next 20 years or so.  If they manage to Impeach Trump, they may well get 1 or 2 MORE such judges.

A decent non-lib judge that committed perjury would be perfect for the Supreme Court.  Unless of course you believe that he couldn't recall interviewing a Federal Judge prior to his confirmation process.  Or, if he did, can such a forgetful young man serve on the Supreme Court?

That's the new thing, hadn't you heard?  People in our country today - all sides - can treat truth like a cafeteria.  Take what you like and deny the rest.  If you don't believe it, it isn't true.  That's REALLY where we're headed and the winners of the 2016 election didn't start that trend.  The temper tantrum of the Left is going to bring this country down, eventually.  And they're apparently willing to go that far, no problem.  I can't tell if they're treasonous or just that hateful and ignorant.  The result will be the same.

Holy crap this is ridiculous even for you.  What do you base this ignorant and pathetic statement on?  What court case can you cite to back up your claim?

It's ridiculous?  Really?  C'mon Merc.  In the midst of a serious investigation picking a judge who says a President can't be served a subpoena is not self serving?  Whether you agree or not, saying that his post is ridiculous is the dumbest thing ever.  Will you ever stop being a partisan shill?  Probably not.

You can't subpoena a president!  It is the law!  The founders understood that situations such as the current craziness would happen and shielded the office from the courts and left the duty of removing the executive to congress (both houses)   Congress and the senate must impeach and remove him from office and THEN  you can serve him a subpoena.  The reason  for this is so the government isn't continuously crippled and shut down by hysterics and crazies with nuisance lawsuits and spurious claims, people who simply can't accept losing an election nor admit their errors.

Aren’t all judges appointed by presidents “very likely to be the deciding vote on whether or not the leader can be held responsible for crimes”?
