In New Mexico, it is either aliens or crime...

https://www.kob.com/albuquerque-news/sunspot-employee-calls-facility-breeding-ground-for-crime/5072951/

But I must admit that it was fun while it lasted...

I guess this puts an end to it, or does it?  That voice of the so-called employee sounds a bit alien to me

The aliens are here for the chile!

@Seti42 was just sharing their opinion, which is not an unreasonable opinion at all.

When there’s a tangible threat, the response should also be tangible.

lol, no domestic threat in history had surrounding area evacuated along with 2 post offices, there is absolutely nothing reasonable about it.

Can't be aliens of the space variety, since they could always go to Area 51. Something else is going on here. maybe they hve an issue with drug cartels or illegal aliens of the human kind around there.

Saw on the Telegraph site, that they also evacuated some residents in the area as well. They had back in August pretty much the whole town of Hondo,Tx west of me.Why because the Fbi and local law enforcement was after members of the Mexican mafia, which actually started in Texas in the prision system. So maybe human smugglers or drug cartels were operatiing in the area.

Maybe Hondo and Sunspot is all part of a dragnet hunting down an alien on the run, say like Starman, or Klaatu, or even E.T.?  It could be a cross between “The Fugitive” and …

Aha, so now the aliens have moved their ships away from the sun so that the observatory could open again ;-) .

The link says that apparently a $15k piece of communications equipment was stolen and that most folks wouldn't know what it's used for if they saw it.

They did say in a statement that they will release all of the footage taken during this event.

So you might still find your aliens!

Just to be clear, @Seti42 did mention the term ‘domestic violence’, however, the crux of their post was a ‘threat by mail’.

So: Why would it not be reasonable to evacuate an area if the potential of a real postal threat existed?

Just saw this on my local news site now. I live in Albuquerque, btw, not anywhere near the Solar Observatory, but, in the same state, at least.

https://www.krqe.com/news/new-mexico/federal-search-warrant-debunks-theories-behind-sunspot-observatory-closure/1460424714

It seems like it's a *** Blocked *** investigation...At least, that's what's being claimed by the press.

(EDIT) Dunno why that was " *** Blocked *** " by UM. Anyway, follow the link to the uncensored story.

right all of this. evacuations, closure telescopes\webcams in 4 countries, all cuz of 1 janitor who had  ch@#$ld  porn on his laptop??? yea, that sounds so logical, not.

it's like locking down entire city cuz someone ran a red light and cops are looking for him.

I just read the story about the janitor.  They must think we're all stupid.  Why evacuate a town with only one employer and one road leading in and out?  The story said they didn't want to tip off the janitor.  So why not just show up and arrest him?  They want us to believe that they had to shut down a town to get to this guy.  Good thing he didn't live in a city.

If you read the story again ;)

Once that janitor realized his computer was no longer there, the director says he "feverishly started looking through the facility," started making comments about "lax security at the facility," said it was "only a matter of time before the facility got hit, and he "believed there was a serial killer in the area" and that killer might enter the facility and execute someone.

The director says that's when he became concerned for his personal safety, and along with the agencies that operate the facility decided to evaluate it and shut it down.

In other words, the observatory was temporarily closed down due to (perceived terrorist) threats made against staff.

How boring ....

..

the more you read it the less sense it makes.  doubling down on lies has that effect.,

if you think 1 guy with porn on his laptop cause entire observatory shot down, 2 post offices evacuated, closure of telescopes\webcams in 4 different countries, then you should believe in Santa too.

and if it was just that, then we really, really need to rethink how our law enforcement works, like seriously rethink on a large scale.

1) A "whole town" was not evacuated. That's straight up fake news.

2) I'm pretty sure no other observatories were locked down and closed. This hasn't been reported by any reliable news agencies. The whole "4 other observatories in 4 countries closed down" reeks of B.S. It might technically be true, but a total coincidence as well. There are tens of thousands of observatories all over the globe. Sometimes, they close for various reasons.

3) I don't get the post office thing, but then again...That could be linked to the ch*** po** thing too. Maybe this janitor was sending/receiving his evil filth via snail mail too. Or maybe he tried to mail evidence away before the FBI seized it. Boxing up your evidence and mailing it to a random far away address is a great way to make it disappear, at least temporarily. As is express mailing it to a co-conspirator with instructions to destroy it.

The FBI takes ch*** po** VERY seriously. As they should. They also take threats very seriously. The janitor was saying vague and threatening things to other employees. The response is totally in line with investigating what has come out via actual news as the subject of the investigation.

Personally, I believe the local news reports. But, again...Once the conspiracy fires get burning, nothing puts them out. Have fun, but don't take it too seriously...

still not buying it.   5 laptops, few dozens of thumb drives and dvds were found at his home, not in the center.

like i said if it really was just that we need to reevaluate our law enforcement, and its priority.  what is next city wide lock down cuz someone fled car accident scene?
