That is personal. Private. None of our business.

But good luck and best wishes.

I'm actually sorry to read that. Heart surgery is a painful process. I hope it's successful and you don't suffer or have any side problems.

Wondered where you've been lately. All the best and looking forward to hearing from you again around here. This place wouldn't be the same without you.

You're an asset to UM, in my humble opinion, so come back soon. :)

Best wishes to you, Mr Walker, for a successful procedure and recovery, these are not minor operations, but it sounds like you are in good hands. I'll say a few prayers, just in case !

Thanks Habitat. Much appreciated.  Not looking forward to the pain but at least it only lasts a few days, and is better than the alternative. :(

Ive always been honest and upfront about myself in all my posts because my views and opinions flow from who I am and  my life experiences.  Plus I've been posting here for14 years so I feel that, while not family, you are all part of my community.

But mostly if i did suddenly  stop posting, I just wanted people to know why. I have rarely missed a day on UM during those years and, for better or worse, my absence would be noticed and commented on. Better that people know what's happening than make guesses.

I appreciate your thoughts and wishes

I guess it's a cultural thing. Where I'm from we share as little as possible.

I cross my fingers and wish you well.

Have you been feeling poorly ? I am a bit puzzled why they'd want to replace a valve, unless your heart function is so impaired by the leaky valve, as to make even mild exertion difficult.

Thanks.  Yes i couldnt get online for a while and it was very frustrating, not just for lack of access to UM, but because so much of our communication is online. Once i could get a post on face book i had about 50 comments almost immediately which also generated phone calls, and even visits from family

Ive known the valve was leaking for almost 3 years but i was still able to function without any impairment. Then, about 3months ago it began creating  shortness of breath and limiting what I could do. I would have put it off longer but once I was over in Adelaide they decided to operate, rather than send me back home, then reschedule.  Bit of a bummer as I had no time to organise finances or care for my wife who is still having residual weakness from a stroke last year. Plus the better my lung function etc the better my general condion pre op.

Just to let online friends and foes that I won't be online for a while. Hopefully I will return in a few weeks.

For some time I have had a leaky heart valve which has been slowly deteriorating. About 10 days ago I had some chest painsvwhich turned out to be muscular but initiated a blood test which showed raised enzyme levels. This was enough for my GP to put me on the Royal Flying doctor service to Adelaide and a luxury suite in the new Royal Adelaide Hospital (and you can see where the billion dollars that it cost was spent)

Further tests confirmed the need for open heart surgery to replace one of the four heart valves. Having gone through a similar procedure in 04 Iam not looking forward to it but if successful it will restore full function for another 15 years which should see me out.

There is a risk of death which is higher than the first op due to my age and also scar tissue, and apparently it willbe even more painful than before during recovery, but I now know enough to max my drug relief for the first few days.

The specialists must be confident as they have asked me to be a  case study for final year students as part of their final clinical assessment. Apparently my case history is unusual enough to be worthy of study and I just happened to be here at the right time.

Any way just wanted to let members know what was going on and if you dont ever hear from me again you will know what happened.

Theoretically only limited internet access is available here and it comes in a very expensive package with television and movies but a young niece who is a student was visiting me and used her  student code and pass word to gain access on my tablet. If it is reset I wont be able to get back on but so far it has been working well.

Hope to be back on line and bothering people again  in a few weeks time. Operation is set for Thursday local time (monday today)

MW, all the best of luck to you.

God speed and hope to see you posting again after you recover.

What a cool thing to be part of a study.

You gotta recover and get back here and drive me nuts. Lol
