spiderdan223 Posted September 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2018 Mothman sightings were primarily within the time period of Nov. 12th 1966 to Dec 15th 1967, in W. Virginia. Were there sightings after this time? I was wondering if after the Keel book was popularized years later, if there were any more instances of sightings? Or has there been a genuine absence of encounters ever since? These would be different from dreamlike encounters or premonitions of the future. Imaginarynumber1 Posted September 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 21, 2018 Nothing more than hysteria. No sightings because mothman isn't real. 1
spiderdan223 Posted September 21, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted September 21, 2018 Yeah, I suppose I'm more interested in it as folklore, than whether it is real or not. I was curious if the hype from the specific Keel book influenced the spreading of more sighting stories. Or if there were any other times when there was a mass of sightings outside of the '60's ones. The wiki timeline does have a lot of info, of which I'm newly appreciative.

However they always seem to be one off sightings. Like lizard-men, frogman, and all the other animal / man hybrids that seemingly are spotted once and never seen again

stereologist Posted September 22, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 22, 2018 There were quite a few mothman reports from Chicago this year and before. http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/daily-southtown/opinion/ct-sta-slowik-chicago-mothman-st-0730-20170728-story.html Can't say if this is the same as the WV reports. There should be a mothman podcast if you look up skeptics monster talk.

spiderdan223 Posted September 22, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted September 22, 2018 (edited) These are interesting links. I didn't know about the recent Chicago Sightings until now. The monstertalk podcast is a useful tool. Also the 'Phantoms and Monsters' site has a listing of those sightings. https://www.phantomsandmonsters.com/p/chicago-phantom-sightings-2011-2017.html Edited September 22, 2018 by spiderdan223
