Eldorado Posted September 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2018 (edited) A tow truck driver's attempt to drive a damaged Jeep onto his truck ended in disaster when the vehicle rolled backward, lost a wheel and ended up on its side. It looks like the pinion gears snapped and the axle backed out then someone shoved it back into the axle housing. He probably had it in 4 wheel when he was driving it so he could use "front wheel drive" to move it.

Quite possibly, I'm not up on keep running gear, but unless it's permanently off road, driving it around town would eat through tyres.
Redefining Success Posted September 22, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 22, 2018 Going off a quick search on the 92 wrangler, they have a open diff as standard. Went to a transit once with the same fault.

Yeah I know. I have a 96 F-150 with the full offroad package. It chops the tread and wears the sides pretty fast but I only work on farm machinery and loaders. I can imagine, easier on the wallet if you keep it on the loose stuff.

It has to be full positive. It works in the fields and woods and tows a log trailer or small loader in sugar sand and peat.

You pull the gears after dropping the driveshaft and taking out the whole back......ecch!
