Still Waters 50,925 #1 Posted October 7, 2018 An upgraded version of the British army's tanks has been developed - complete with night vision and a laser warning system. BAE Systems has unveiled the enhanced tank, dubbed the "Black Night", in the hope the Ministry of Defence will purchase the upgrades to ensure the army has the best equipment possible. It is an upgrade of the Challenger 2 tank built by the company in the 1990s, which has been used in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq. Black Night, which would be used alongside current tanks, include a front and rear infrared camera on each tank to allow the gunner to focus on one target while the commander identifies other targets. https://news.sky.com/story/black-night-upgraded-tank-for-uk-army-unveiled-by-bae-systems-11517300 1
seanjo 6,574 #2 Posted October 7, 2018 It's a great tank, probably the best tank, but Black Night is too reminiscent of the Black Prince which was a bloody awful underpowered tank.

So the gunner is firing behind him (presumably at his fellow tankers) whilst the commander is looking forwards ? Or visa versa ? This Sky News "story" is basically an advertorial for BAE systems ! The Truman show 10,709 #4 Posted October 8, 2018 I noticed one of the reasons why this tank has no exports, outdated rifled gun barrel, isn’t part of the upgrade. It would help the tank get export contracts if they installed an extended 120mm southbore

Assuming you’re not trying to be a smart ****. A rifled gun loads the sabot and charge seperately. Smooth bore guns fire an all inclusive unit. Smoothbores are better, more common and have a greater variety of sabots. {EDIT} Just to correct... it’s a smooth bore not south bore.
