Eldorado Posted October 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2018 Members of Parliament have benefitted from more than £2m worth of free overseas trips in the last two years. More than half were paid for by foreign governments and Saudi Arabia spent more than any other, BBC analysis of Parliament's expenses register reveals. A total of 810 visits were recorded by 340 MPs in the years either side of the 2017 general election. Conservative MPs were treated to £1.3m worth of travel and £630,000 was spent on Labour members. The other parties had less than £200,000 spent on them put together. Full report: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45883411 We are governed by the shameless. Every organised employer has an expenses facility so people can do their jobs without it eating into their own wages. MPs do not need to be paid more. They can afford to take the trips they NEED to make - that's what expenses are for. They already earn over 70k. If that's not enough to make it accessible to ordinary people, how do ordinary people manage to live on a teacher's salary? Or a nurse's? Every organised employer does gave an expenses system. Including parliament. I think you may not have read the article or the OP. This is not about trips claimed on expenses. This is about MPs being treated to free trips by private individuals and foreign states. They are not, therefore, trips they NEED to make. If it was anything other than trips being given, we'd call it bribery.
