US school apologises after canteen serves dish with kangaroo meat

A school in the United States has apologised to students for the "anxiety and any harm" it may have caused by dishing up a kangaroo meat dish for lunch.

The students were served a chilli made with a mix of beef and kangaroo on October 10, Nebraska's Potter-Dix Public Schools superintendent Mike Williams said in a public letter.

Roo’s tasty, why would it cause anxiety if it was clearly marked as Roo meat?

I don't think it was clearly (or even unclearly) marked. From the report it seems the kangaroo was mixed in with beef mince for the chilli.

Mostly tough as old boots, the "fillet" is pretty good though. Some cuts are that  tough, you have to boil it with a stone is the bottom of the saucepan, when the stone goes soft, the meat is ready to eat.

According to reports, kangaroo meat was served without them knowing.

It's a bad call from the cook.

It is a very low fat product with no chemicals in it, being a wild animal, they are not farmed (they jump fences !). Probably the healthiest meat you can get.

I think Kangaroo meat from an animal out of the wild is much more healthier than meat from cattle, hogs and chicken who were fattened with GMO junk their whole life.

Cultural shock.  Americans tend to think of them as "cute".  My guess is that, if prepared well, it would be quite tasty.

Definitely a culture shock. No one in NA wants to eat a pouch baby for lunch.

Not all that cute, they can deliver a nasty hiding to the unwary. Get between a buck and a doe in breeding season, worse than getting between a lawyer and a pile of money.

Skippy is still around in big numbers, aided by the provision of watering points for livestock, they are able to stay in areas where once they would only remain in good seasons, and natural water availability.
