George's Island in Boston Harbor

Many ghost stories are set in Boston. A local favorite concerns a Civil War heroine who tried to rescue her husband from the Fort Warren prisoner of war camp on George's Island, at the outer entrance to Boston Harbor. Or, maybe her goal was for the couple to have turned the fort's guns on the city and changed the outcome of the war!

Either way, she was captured, tried for espionage and hanged at the fort while wearing a black dress. It is in that garb that she is still seen on George's Island, more than 150 years later.

Or so the story goes. Read all about it at
