The Caspian Hare Posted October 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2018 http://www.egypttoday.com/Article/2/59450/Israeli-police-assault-Egyptian-monks-during-a-peaceful-protest Quote CAIRO - 24 September 2018: Israeli police forces assaulted Egyptian monks affiliated with the Coptic Orthodox Church on Oct. 24 in the Old City of Jerusalem as they were protesting in front of Deir El Sultan Monastery which is part of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The monks were protesting because the Israeli government banned them from renovating the church while the municipality has been restoring a chapel on the monastery's roof affiliated with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church without the approval of the Coptic Orthodox Church. “The police besieged the monks while protesting. They hit and pushed them, and arrested one of them. They forcibly dragged them away and let municipality workers enter the church to do the renovation,” an eye witness said. https://www.timesofisrael.com/egypt-churches-condemn-police-tussle-with-jerusalem-monks/ Quote A scuffle between Israeli police and Coptic priests at a major Christian holy site in Jerusalem on Wednesday drew condemnation from the Egyptian government and churches in the Holy Land. 1

+and-then Posted October 26, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2018 My reading comprehension seems to be slipping a bit. So Israel was going to spend the time and money to repair structural damage in a landmark holy site and Coptic priests were protesting that, yes? It sounds like sort of a turf battle over who controls what. In many cases where Israeli police/security forces tend to get heavy-handed and impatient, they have good reasons but that doesn't excuse them when they're straight up thuggish against peaceful protesters. It's the same with some IDF soldiers who just get so angry and disaffected because of the seeming futility of the work they do that they go overboard and become callous. I try to remember that most of them that are defending the borders are conscripts averaging 18-20 years of age.

Dark_Grey Posted October 31, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 31, 2018 Hold on a second. Why is Israel bullying and intimidating the Coptics to do renovations on the Coptic's Church without their permission? Quote The monks were protesting because the Israeli government banned them from renovating the church while the municipality has been restoring a chapel on the monastery's roof affiliated with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church without the approval of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Quote The Islamic-Christian Association for Jerusalem and Holy Sites denounced the act as Eastern Jerusalem is considered an international city under the 1947 UN Partition Plan, and thus, Israeli forces have no right to enter the place. Zoning issues here. Quote The association asked the Egyptian government and the Christian world to intervene and urge Israeli authorities to stop such violations and not entering the monastery on the pretext of carrying out renovation because that is the exclusive responsibility of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Why are the Israeli's trying to forcibly renovate the Coptic's Church in a part of the city that doesn't even belong to them? Quote Coptic Bishop of Jerusalem and the Holy Land Antonius affirmed in statements to the press that that Deir El Sultan is owned by Egypt and the Coptic Orthodox Church since the seventh century, and that there are 23 royal documents that prove the ownership. Quote The bishop explained that the church hired a company to renovate the Chapel of the Angel located in the monastery but the Israeli authorities banned the workers from entering the place insisting to solely undertake the task. He also revealed that the Maronic Church (Catholic,) has taken over an integral part of the Church of the Angel while carrying out renovation. So the Catholic Church is the real bully here. No surprise there.

Saves time I'm certain that most outlets handle any news from the region with such boilerplate. It's also known as propaganda. NO ONE is wrong all the time, in every instance. Let's face it, the Jews have been hated for centuries, wherever they've settled. No news here. Someday the world is going to literally burn because of that ancient hatred. And the world is going to deserve it.
