Eureka!

They were arm-straighteners!

The best explanation for the shafts I've seen is in this pdf file.

It's a good'un. You only need to read the first 4 or 5 pages.

Thanks for that, Harte. So now it is perfectly clear to me... it ain't clear to anyone! lol

That's about the safest way to sum it up.

Seemed clear to me. Try just pages 3 and 4.

The text isn't very dense.

But...the shafts themselves aren't straight. So maybe they were arm-benders.

Their arms weren't that long, you dolt.

Besides, what did you think elbows were for?

I have no absolute conclusion on them, considering no one today really knows whet they were for. They don't seem to fulfill any truly practical purpose.

I still do rather like the explanation that they were to help the king's soul find the heavens, but even that purpose is not a certainty.

Are the heavens a golden color?

Thank you very much for this Harte.

It certainly seems plausible to me.

Better get your eyes adjusted.

If the sun is golden, the negative would be a deep blue color.

Since the Moon doesn't make light, only reflecting light from the Sun, why is it yellow?

Here's the answer:

Quote

The sun is classified as a G-type main-sequence star, or G dwarf star, or more imprecisely, a yellow dwarf. Actually, the sun — like other G-type stars — is white, but appears yellow through Earth's atmosphere.

The earths atmosphere serves like a prism.

So who was looking at the Sun? People inside the atmosphere, right?

The sun emits visible light at many wavelengths, but the part of the spectrum that emits the most energy is actually a colour that have not been mentioned yet: Green !

http://askanastronomer.org/stars/faq/2015/11/06/is-the-sun-yellow-or-white/

So you guys can stop bickering because you are all equally wrong. :P

The Sun is viewed as yellow by people that live on the Earth.

Like the people we were talking about.
