How many other races are ballots now appearing out of nowhere?  Mes smells a rat!  They're no longer trying to hide it.  Win at all costs.

I was just reading this before I checked in. Somewhere in Florida always does something criminally stupid with ballots every election, it seems (I say as a retired cop from the State and a person born there. I am not an outsider slamming them).

This is as bad and extreme as the mess in Georgia where you have too many pots the same hands are in.

Well, they were counted and when they were counted again ... there was more of them. That’s mighty Hinkey.

We'll see with the recount but it could be absentee ballots that weren't accounted for at first. If it is election fraud then it'll be impossible to get away with it. Florida has electronic and paper ballots, yeah?

A slew of election laws were broken. Regardless, there will now be an investigation into the matter.

It seems the discrepancy has to do with uncounted Senate votes. It was either a machine error, a by-product of faulty ballot design making the Senate choices difficult to find or votes simply haven't been counted.

Quote

One reason for hope for Nelson is that a traditionally Democratic area, Broward County, has so far reported fewer votes for the Senate race compared with the gubernatorial race, according to data compiled by MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki. In other Florida counties, no such discrepancy exists. While some of the discrepancy could be due to genuine undervotes—for instance, the design of the ballot may have led some voters to miss it and not vote in that race—it’s possible that the county hasn’t correctly counted all the ballots. About 24,000 ballots in Broward County registered a vote in the governor’s race but not for the Senate race.

The discrepancy with the Senate race tally is consistent down the ballot, with more votes cast in lower-profile races like commissioner of agriculture, chief financial officer, and attorney general than in the Senate race, according to the preliminary county results. As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 675,216 votes had been counted in the Senate race in Broward (466,321 for Nelson and 208,895 for Scott). By comparison, the gubernatorial race had 701,080 cast in Broward, and even the commissioner of agriculture race had 685,440 total votes while the chief financial officer race had 685,017 votes.

Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias told the Sun Sentinel that he thinks the undervotes were due to voting machines not detecting genuine votes. “I am pretty confident what you are going to see are markings that were not picked up by the machines or a calibration issue that was not registering that part of the ballot,” he said.i

Here is the thing. They do not take office until January, so technically, there is no rush.

HOWEVER, if you have laws on the books, as Florida does, requiring all absentee ballots to be reported within 30 minutes of the close of voting (I believe that is the case), then you need to comply. Two days later they are still adding votes. This is bogus, especially combined with past issues related to this same woman in charge down there.

It needs to be handled one way, openly and consistently. Anything else becomes very suspicious, especially in this day and age of claims about foreign interference and hacking and other irregularities.

Absentee ballots should have been done before election day, actually. When I sent mine in while serving overseas, the drop dead date was in advance and plenty of time to arrive back in Florida. They can be run into the system and logged before election day and should be. Mail it late they should be shredded. That is what "too late" means.

Tens of thousands difference in the numbers, if you read the article, is hogwash.

Something is broken or very suspicious down there.

Similar is going on in Arizona in a couple counties, also. How is this not standardized throughout the State?

Same thing happened here in NM CD 2.  All of a sudden, 8,000 votes just appeared.  This is an old tactic, to putz around until more ballots could be created if needed.  This is a traditionally Republican district.  Yvette Herrell was leading by the day after, then all of a sudden new ballots "were found".  Now  Xochitl Torres Small is being declared the winner.  It doesn't matter really, just highly suspicious.  I would swear that election officials from Chicago retired here.  If there is a recount, there'll be the usual shell game with the newly found ballots.  This is perhaps the most Blue state in the United States.  I think there might be 7 Republican state Senators left and that's it.  I saw a suggestion to change the name of the state to California East.  The crime here is bad and its going to get worse.  I'm making this warning, if you are in a neighboring state wanting to get to the other side, do not stop in this state.  Drive through and try not to stop for gas or even to pee.  It takes about 5 hours total.

The only evidence of this that has been presented is the claim of a candidate. That's it. And he refused to answer any questions after making his statement.

I think it's a bit early to be making claims based on the word of a guy who clearly is fearing a loss. I'll reserve judgement until all the facts are available.

Edit to add:

Florida counties have until noon on Saturday to submit unofficial election results to the Florida Department of State. The secretary of state, Ken Detzner, a Scott appointee, will review the results and decide whether to order recounts.

Broward County? Wait, isn't that Debbie Wasserman Schultz district? The same district as the Parkland shooting? The same district where Debbie green lit the Pakistani IT nationalists? Time will tell.

Florida Governor Rick Scott filed a lawsuit against Broward County election supervisor Brenda Snipes.

Governor Rick Scott & the NRSC are filing a public records lawsuit against Broward election supervisor Brenda Snipes for failing to provide them with information about outstanding ballots that have yet to be tabulated

Edit to add--

It's not unheard of to get a ballot in the mail after you move out of State. Usually it's just from old computer records that haven't been updated. Doesn't mean it wasn't intentional, however

It is just too much bs for me to buy into and play all open minded and sympathetic and how every vote counts.

Every legitimate vote counts, when filed on time and in compliance with the requirements.

Nationwide we have thousands of polls run with no drama, 50 states even, no drama, and it is always Florida somehow and a couple others which can vary election to election.

There has to be a drop dead point, and NO declaration of a winner if we are going to suddenly be ok with days of delay and added votes and ballots trucked in (or destroyed in some places and counted late in others).

So far, there is exactly zero evidence that anything shady has happened.

The deadline is Saturday for a reason.

TALLAHASSEE — After the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Thursday night it would investigate two local election officials at the request of Gov. Rick Scott, the agency now says that because no voter fraud allegations were made, it is no longer pursuing an investigation.

“What changed is that this morning we spoke with the Department of State and they indicated they had no criminal allegations of fraud,” FDLE spokesperson Gretl Plessinger told POLITICO in an email. “So, after speaking to them, we offered our assistance in the event any criminal allegations are identified.”

Politico

Well, I guess that's that. An outright false claim of voter fraud, presumably because they don't want the rest of the votes counted.

Or that it was. Which is simpler: admin error or a perfectly concealed conspiracy?

If you are going to be counting votes for days then there should be no official announcement of a winner for days. Simple as that. Then nobody wonders why your count is changing what you already announced as if you did have 100% tallied.

Easy fix.

Was Florida called? I don't think it was, like a few other states.

This is expected, which is why the deadline for the vote count is tomorrow. The only reason there is a problem is because the Rep candidate was ahead, but as more of the votes came in from the largely liberal County - a county that has over one million voters - and they showed the Dem candidate creeping upwards, the Rep instantly called Shenanigans.

I do agree though that no one should really claim or declare victory before all the votes have been counted. There are certain exceptions (for instance when a candidate is winning by more ballots left to count), but generally it seems like a sensible rule of thumb.

It shouldn’t be hard to give a tally of votes on election night, you hand out paper ballots and tick off names from a register, just count that.

that gives you the votes on the night.

You can also count the postal votes because you need to tell them which area your voting for in order to get your ballot. That information you should have BEFORE Election Day.

thr only outstanding votes then would be servicemen and servicewomen on active service and overseas US citizens voting at the consulates.

Yeah how about that. Snipes was caught illegally destroying ballots in the 2016 election.

Indeed. And she should be punished accordingly.

But isn't the person now overseeing the election appointed by a Republican?

I am truly hoping Trump stands up his election fraud commission...only to be proven a fool, once again.

Snipes is a Democrat that was appointed in 2003 by Jeb Bush to replace Miriam Oliphant who was escorted from her office due to having uncounted ballots in her possession. Snipes has since been reelected to her position since that time. Snipes was reelected in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016.

It is common to replace a person that has been removed from office for whatever reason with one from the same party.

Nice Try.
