Still Waters Posted November 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2018 Japan's affection for robots is no secret. But is the feeling mutual in the country's amazing androids? We may now be a step closer to giving androids greater facial expressions to communicate with. Android faces must express greater emotion if robots are to interact with humans more effectively. Researchers tackled this challenge as they upgraded their android child head, named Affetto. They precisely examined Affetto's facial surface points and the precise balancing of different forces necessary to achieve more human-like motion. Through mechanical measurements and mathematical modeling, they were able to use their findings to greatly enhance Affetto's range of emotional expression. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/11/181115104632.htm 1
SHaYap Posted November 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2018 I wonder if Affetto will get a black eye if you punched it in the face ... ~

BorizBadinov Posted November 20, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 20, 2018 It's probably the fact that this lifelike head is bodyless that makes it feel creepy more than it's human resemblance. A whole article about robot facial expressions with only one picture? Words cannot express what words cannot express. Ashleigh Brilliant
moonman Posted November 20, 2018 #5 Share Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) Looks creepy and doesn't express any emotions other than slight goofy kid grin. I was expecting more, we have a long way to go for realistic face control on robots if this is state of the art.
