Nine people have been charged on allegations they bribed homeless people on Skid Row in exchange for fake signatures as part of a large-scale voter fraud scheme.

The suspects offered homeless people cash and cigarettes in exchange for hundreds of forged or fake signatures on state ballot petitions and voter registration forms, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office reported Tuesday.

Happened in Texas too.

9 people arrested for alleged voter fraud in Hidalgo County

Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on Thursday that the Election Fraud Unit of his office arrested nine individuals accused of participating in an organized illegal voting scheme in Edinburg.

The AG’s office says the arrests follow an ongoing investigation into a coordinated effort by political workers to recruit people who agreed to fraudulently claim residential addresses so they could vote in specific city of Edinburg municipal races.

Arrested were Hidalgo County residents Guadalupe Sanchez Garza, Araceli Gutierrez, Brenda Rodriguez, Rosendo Rodriguez, Cynthia Tamez, Ruby Tamez, Belinda Rodriguez, Felisha Yolanda Rodriguez and Jerry Gonzalez, Jr.

Why cheat if your policies are so good?

Their entire history is racked with abysmal behavior.

Why doesn’t it say for which party they were bribed to vote for?

Investigators said they have found no connection to the lobbyists that hired the signature collectors or to the political campaigns behind the initiatives. The signature gatherers do not appear to be politically motivated, Joseph said.

“The lure is the money,” Joseph said.

People hired to get initiatives on the ballot are often paid by signature, typically $1 to $2, although a recent glut of proposed ballot initiatives has pushed the rate as high as $6 a signature, officials said.

Pay a dollar and make 5.  No wonder they were hitting up the homeless.
