DIY SLS Camera with Playstation Eye?

As a paranormal investigator, I have wanted a SLS (Structured Light Sensor) camera for quite some time now. I know of the DIY method of using the Kinect system from an X-Box, but I recently was going through my electronics and found I have a Playstation Eye. I was wondering if these two devices work the same way, so that I could use the Eye to make an SLS camera? And if it is possible, what software/setup would be needed?
