Michigan becomes first state in Midwest to allow recreational marijuana

In a new law that took effect Thursday, Michigan is now the first Midwestern state to legally allow recreational marijuana. It's the 10th state to legalize recreational pot. It could take a year before Michigan starts licensing medical marijuana shops to sell to recreational users. Critics worry the wait could lead to high demand on the black market where there's no oversight, reports CBS News correspondent Nikki Battiste. Stuart Carter showed us the products at his medical marijuana shop in Detroit.

10th state, and that is not counting how much more allow medical only.

The tide is turning. I predict roughly 5-8 more years before the federal government legalizes.

not unless they come up with another excuse to stop, detain, search, confiscate, which will be as good as "i smell weed".  civil forfeiture is a 6 billion a year industry, that would collapse without "i smell weed " excuse.

It will open opportunities for people to open shops and should decrease the amount of illegal drugs coming in.   Many will continue to use their current dealers, but many will not.

They still need a test that can show if you are currently under the influence.
