Russia Shows Off New Laser Weapon After U.S. Threatens to Pull Out of Missile Treaty

Quote

Russian state media published video earlier today of its latest laser weapons system, the Peresvet. The move comes just a day after the U.S. said it would likely pull out of a key arms treaty between the two countries, and the timing of the video’s release doesn’t appear to be a coincidence.

What can the Peresvet laser system do? So far, Russia isn’t giving us any specifics. But the country wants to assure America that if the U.S. pulls out of the INF Treaty, as the U.S. State Department threatened to do yesterday, Russia is ready to go so far as to attack European countries if it must.

“If the INF treaty is destroyed, we won’t leave it without a response,” General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov said today in Russia while addressing military leaders. “You as military professionals must understand that the target for Russian retaliation won’t be U.S. territory but the countries where the intermediate-range missiles are deployed.”

The Very Interesting thing about this video is how FAKE it is.  Watch around the 1:08 minute marker. We see something on the ground obliterated by a ...laser... apparently.   Funny though...actual laser weapons (which the US actually has) do not provide a 'light experience'.  In fact...they are invisible to the eye.

Watch the Russian Laser Weapon video...and then watch the next one  LAWS ...Laser Weapons System...which is currently deployed on actual ships.

The difference between the two videos is...you actually see things being shot out of the sky by LAWS...and a ...obviously fake simulation of a Laser Weapon by Russia.   Also note the music in Russia's video...laughably 'sinister' sounding...like some B movie from the Eighties.

This:

“You as military professionals must understand that the target for Russian retaliation won’t be U.S. territory but the countries where the intermediate-range missiles are deployed.”

The US has always had missiles aimed at Russia in countries that neighbor Russia, like Poland. The whole "Cuban Missile Crisis" all came about because of this. The Kennedy administration promised the USSR to get medium range NUKES out of Turkey, but didn't. This crap leads to very bad feelings and creates a dangerous atmosphere. How would America feel if Russia put nukes in Mexico or Canada?   How insulting.

geezus.

Well, there is one  H U G E  difference.  That would be the history of the U.S.S.R.    They rolled their tanks into the countries surrounding Russia and basically said, Hello Comrades...you are welcome!  You are now part of Soviet Union!    To which many said, The Hell we are!...to which the Soviets replied....imagine here the knocking down of doors, and carrying away of citizens of said country at gun point...never to be heard from or seen again....

Well, the "laser" if they ever actually build it, has nothing to do with any retaliation. And I doubt there will be another deployment of nuclear missiles to Europe, the small number remaining (in the form of aircraft-delivered bombs, as well as what the UK and France have) are enough for deterrent purposes.

They've still got 4350 nuclear warheads at last count.  The US only has 3035 towns/cities with population over 10,000. https://www.statista.com/statistics/241695/number-of-us-cities-towns-villages-by-population-size/

It's not like they need more nukes.

Lasers shooting down missiles would be a big deterrent, but I doubt it has the range to be effective on nukes.

Russian achievements are hilarious.

they spend millions to research what enthusiasts in the west have been building in their garages for  some time now,. they build "skolkovo" yet it's done nothing useful so far. which is great from our pov,
