Tartessos could be Atlantis :)

It’s not exactly where Plato said it was, nor the size he claimed nor did its destruction prevent entrance to/exit from the Mediterranean.

There’s no island of Atlantis either.

I know all videos are  funny:) but if you study there was a report that  hit  Lisbon Portugal in ancient times way before 1755 .

A huge wave crashed into the New York City region 2,300 years ago, dumping sediment and shells across Long Island and New Jersey and casting wood debris far up the Hudson River

Before 1755? Well, that’s just a little nebulous.

You might as well called Doggerland Atlantis based on the “evidence” you’ve displayed thus far.

Yes, those valiant kings of Athens who ruled over some goat herders and a very lost kangaroo 9000 years before Plato.

Athens didn't exist 9000 years before Plato.

Then how did the Athenians go to war with Atlantis?

I've coined a phrase for this - "sparkly worldview."

Didn't go over as well as "chronically astonished" did though, or even "Sitchinistas."

Ooooh.. never heard of ANY of those before, but I like them.

Umm.. what is a "Sitchinista" ?

One who is so devoted to Zechariah Sitchin's made-up pseudohistory that they deny actual facts and invent their own to defend him.

I named them after the Sandinistas, which is part of why the term has faded, because they have.

Or was it the Spartans ? :unsure2:

Correct. According to the story, Atlantis attacked Athens.

And except for the annoying fact that Athens didn't exist at the time of the supposed war with Atlantis, it's a rollicking great yarn.

The war with Athens is an important, fundamental part of Plato's narrative.

Therefore, any candidate for Atlantis must be shown to have have invaded and defeated Egypt before attacking Athens and then being defeated themselves  An event which would, of course, be remembered both by Egypt and Athens, had it ever happened.

So ....... ;)

Most researchers think it was a big storm surge.

It wasn't as big as this article lets on.and it didn't inundate any upland Native coastal sites nor knock out any coastal cedar swamps.

Not necessarily. The Atlantians could have sailed straight through the Straits of Gibralter and attacked Athens from the sea. No landing in Egypt would have been necessary.

Of course, seeing as how they didn't exist ANYWAY, this is all hypothetical.

Plato is clear on this: "...the island was larger than Libya and Asia put together..."

From Timaeus: http://classics.mit.edu/Plato/timaeus.html

The Prophesy of Neferty contains a translation for Libya (as ancient Egyptians would have used the term).  See item 14 in the following link.  It also talks about Libya and Asia, as a single concept.
