Earl.Of.Trumps Posted December 30, 2018 #126 Share Posted December 30, 2018 The latest I read is that Syrian troops have moved into the North, and Russia and Turkey have had diplomatic meetings on the upcoming Turk incursion. The Turks are not necessarily trying to confront the Syrians, only the Kurds. Should get interesting. Also, the US is going to allow the Kurds to keep the weapons given to them by the US. The Turks and the Syrians don't like eachother very much and neither like the Kurds. If the Turks want the Kurds bad enough, Syria won't stop them. And I don't think Syria will go all out to protect the Kurds, IMO. But the Syrians would like its land returned to Syrian control. They may well act to stop turkey getting any sort of foothold in Syrian territory. Especially as recently things have be going 'well' for them, a Turkish incursion may be seen as a reversal needing an appropriate response. Turkey v Syria and Russia - where would that leave NATO? You are correct, Raymo, I just read today that Syrian troops have rolled into Northern Syria to take control of the region. Turkey has been holding diplomatic talks with Russia about their expected incursion but not with Syria. Also, the Syrian Kurds are asking to ally with Syria. You might, in the end see Turkey confront Syria and if so, the Russians may have to take sides.
Only_ Posted December 31, 2018 #129 Share Posted December 31, 2018 (edited) TURKEY ORDERS FSA TO WITHDRAW FROM FRONTLINE WITH MANBIJ https://southfront.org/turkey-orders-fsa-to-withdraw-from-frontlines-with-manbij/?fbclid=IwAR3vE5yvQwqAT1m6RIE3CdpC2cutGtfEtwNGjTCR4gv1d-p-6UYbgUtPF4U Seems like Turkish-backed rebels are already retreating, as a result of Syrian Army troops deployment.
