+susieice Posted December 23, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2018 It seems Krakatoa erupted and caused an underwater landslide that crossed the Sundra Strait. At least 20 have been killed and 165 injured. https://nbc25news.com/news/nation-world/at-least-20-killed-165-wounded-after-tsunami-hits-indonesia-12-23-2018?fbclid=IwAR0t8uYqSdXU22JjVwEXP3eWwylg5cHkNgi6HQF6ZhylIe0Ow2QgIJt48Eg Here's the news on Krakatoa. Hankenhunter Posted December 23, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2018 (edited) I thought it was Anak Krakatau? No matter, it's still a huge disaster waiting to happen. +susieice Posted December 23, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted December 23, 2018 It is Anak Krakatoa. Krakatau is also an accepted name. This is a good article. A lot of damage to buildings. News is still breaking. It happened this morning East Coast Time. https://www.forbes.com/sites/robinandrews/2018/12/22/indonesias-krakatoa-just-made-a-deadly-tsunami-heres-everything-you-need-to-know/#e2a0a614c3e9

Hank They said it's been having eruptions since summer, but they aren't expecting a cataclysmic blow. Still, it's going to keep affecting the Sundra Strait if it doesn't slow down. The son will eventually explode just like pop did in 1883. I'm wondering if the fault lines have moved. They said there is explosive activity with lava fountains at the summit. Must be a lot of magma coming into the chambers. That's just my guess. They also mentioned pyroclastic flows. That's not good either. It's been growing at a rate of 22 feet a year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krakatoa Edited December 23, 2018 by susieice

+susieice Posted December 23, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted December 23, 2018 (edited) The news tonight has the death toll up to 43. It's mentioning that the tsunami was associated with a volcano, but they aren't saying the name. When you say Krakatoa, people get the idea real quick. Yes, 43 dead 600 injured. It's still expected to rise. Hundreds of buildings were badly damaged or destroyed. https://www.nst.com.my/world/2018/12/443101/update-sunda-strait-tsunami-death-toll-rises-43-600-injured Edited December 23, 2018 by susieice
+susieice Posted December 23, 2018 Author #12 Share Posted December 23, 2018 I saw that many are missing. No mention of how many. This may have been a major eruption. I can't imagine how the people of Java are feeling right now. Anak Krakatoa is a little less than 30 miles off the western coast. Jakarta, the capital, is within sight of it. https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/krakatau/news/72494/Krakatoa-volcano-Sunda-Strait-Indonesia-possible-major-eruption-with-ash-to-55000-ft-following-deadl.html 1
+susieice Posted December 23, 2018 Author #13 Share Posted December 23, 2018 The Telegraph is reporting 62 dead. One person said 20 are missing, but most are just saying many. The change in the gravitational pull from the Moon during apogee and perigee is small. Link 4

I thought I read somewhere that without the moon and her tidal effects on the earth and oceans, her core would slow. Then again it could have been one of those nasty disaster movies I've watched. +susieice Posted December 23, 2018 Author #19 Share Posted December 23, 2018 This map shows Palu, where a 7.5 earthquake and tsunami hit in September, killing hundreds. The Sundra Strait is the small waterway to the southwest of Indonesia. The upper island is Sumatra and the lower on is Java. Is it possible that the plates shifting added more fuel to an already erupting Anak Krakatoa?
+susieice Posted December 23, 2018 Author #20 Share Posted December 23, 2018 This has a little more information. A witness taking photos questioned the odd color of the sea after the tsunami. +susieice Posted December 23, 2018 Author #21 Share Posted December 23, 2018 (edited) OMG The BBC is now saying 222 deaths and 843 injured. A wave also hit parts of Sumatra. It's shocking to hear this volcano caused this damage. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time Anak Krakatoa has caused destruction like this and has been in the news. I knew it had been erupting and growing since the early 1900's. I really feel for the people of Indonesia. My thoughts are with them and hope they please, heed the warnings and stay away from vulnerable areas until this passes. When you hear that name, you immediately think of the 1883 eruption. Volcanologists don't expect another eruption like that to occur in the near future. If you ask me, this is way bad enough. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-46663158 This is confirmed by Asian news. Not all areas have reported in yet so the toll is still expected to rise. They say 28 are still missing. https://www.scmp.com/news/asia/article/2179246/least-20-killed-165-wounded-after-tsunami-hits-indonesia Edited December 23, 2018 by susieice 1

On top of that, they felt no tremor, it was out of blue. I'm surprised there weren't many more casualties.

Hank The Moon`s gravity effects the earth's mantle as well by lifting it up and even more when Sun/Moon/Earth are on the same line, so you were not that wrong with your opinion because a movement within the earth's mantle might influence and/or trigger volcanic events.
+susieice Posted December 24, 2018 Author #25 Share Posted December 24, 2018 The news released by Indonesian officials today has been saddening. The death toll is now 281, 1016 wounded, 57 missing. They are still warning people to stay away from the beach areas as the volcano is still actively erupting and the possibility of another tsunami being triggered is high. I'm hoping everyone heeds the warning and stays safe. https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/sunda-strait-tsunami-death-toll-rises-to-280-many-tourists-among-those-killed 1
