The success of Netflix’s “Bird Box” has led not only to dozens of memes, but also a viral social media challenge.

On Wednesday, the streaming company issued a warning to viewers taking part in the so-called “Bird Box” challenge, in which people are called to do everyday tasks blindfolded.

Full report: https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/bird-box-challenge-inspired-by-netflix-movie-prompts-streaming-service-to-issue-warning

"Using the hashtag #BirdBoxChallenge, social media users posted photos and videos of themselves attempting to do tasks like using the escalator, operating a scooter indoors and dancing without their sense of sight.

Most of the videos end up with people crashing or falling."

Which is in itself redundant, in that we're discussing Netflix subscribers.

An idea for a new challenge:

The "Go Offline and Stay Offline Challenge!"

Might save thousands of lives! (...but ruin the Darwin Awards!)

Why not skip the chase and go back to that tide pod challenge? Or do the "advanced" level and do the Tide Pod challenge while blind folded! It's a challenge in a challenge! It's Callenge-ception.

Anyway I hope all those people are sticking to doing things that can only hurt themselves and not endanger others.

US driver in 'Bird Box blindfold' crashes in Utah

Police in the US state of Utah have taken the unusual step of urging residents not to drive blindfolded after an online challenge inspired by a horror film led to a crash.

A teenager with her hat over her eyes drove into oncoming traffic in the city of Layton while taking part in the so-called "Bird Box Challenge".

Saw that in the news. Thought - seriously??? People actually do this???

It beggars belief!

Their cars should be taken away and so should their driving licence. Anyone with brains like that should not be allowed to drive on the roads.

If they want to walk about blindfolded and they smack into a lampost, fine, as long as in England they are refused free hospital treatment. Make them pay for their stupidity.

I want to call it 'Bird brain' challenge, but that's disrespectful to birds. How about 'pea brain' ?

As teens we would all drive 120ish in the wrong lane racing and just hoped something out there protected us around the turns. No one was ever hurt.
Please do not try my stupid acts at home. These stunts were performed by non professionals

Kinda related news:

"Netflix's post-apocalyptic survival film Bird Box is drawing criticism for using footage of a real fiery train disaster in Canada, though the streaming giant says it has no plans to remove it.

The footage concerns a 2013 tragedy in the Quebec town of Lac-Megantic when an unattended train carrying crude oil rolled down an incline, came off the tracks and exploded into a massive ball of fire, killing 47 people.

Netflix licensed the footage of the disaster from the stock image vendor Pond 5 and used it in Bird Box in an early TV news montage to set up its horrific premise."

Full report: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-01-18/bird-box-scene-featuring-real-train-crash-will-stay-netflix-says/10725616

No shame.

The challenge was inspired by the new thriller’s plot, which takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where people need to wear blindfolds to block the outside world and prevent themselves from being possessed by demons that prey on their worst fears and lead them to commit suicide.

They mean the anti-Trump Snowflake movement?
