California Sen. Kamala Harris is throwing her hat into the Democratic primary for president, bypassing the formal exploratory stage and going all-in. Harris made it official Monday with a social media video that also introduced her campaign slogan: "For the people."

"I'm running for president," she said in a twitter post.  "Let's do this together."

CBS

My money's on her winning the nomination.

My opinion...?

It will be somebody that is not a name in the MSM right now.  Remember Obama..? Yes he was a weapon in Illinois, not so much elsewhere, so maybe some could see it coming. But all of a sudden, he picked up steam and blew right passed Golden Girl, Hilary, who started out with a huge lead. Then she cried.

But an even better example is Bill Clinton. Who the hell was Bill Clinton?  Some Governor dude from Arkansas that no one ever heard of. He was one of 11 people running in the primaries. And all of a sudden, BOOM, he shot up. All the stories by Pookie Flowers, Clinton's alleged mistress, came pouring out. Others followed suit and the unofficial  #MeToo movement was started. Nothing mattered, though. He was the Teflon Don out of nowhere. That still amazes me.

In the US, the time to select candidates out of the blue is over, see the last attempt that failed devastatingly. The country would not survive a subsequent idiot in office.

I have a feeling that the Fed will determine the next president.  It will depend on the economy, overall.  If enough people in the swing states are feeling prosperous and decide to stay with him then he very well could be reelected.  The shutdown will be over and forgotten by that time.  If it drags on another month or more I think people will begin to see his offers as being very reasonable.  Their biggest stated concern is that it's a waste of money. (Bullshrike) Less than 6 billion.  If the shutdown keeps going we'll waste more than that in productivity and secondary losses in the economy.  It will be harder and harder to make people believe it makes sense for the Dem's not to just compromise.

Half of us are quite pleased with the president.   The problem you have is that you watch the MSM to get your news.  The "chaos" has all been generated by a hysterical resistance to an outsider winning the office.  Harris comes from the most Liberal state in the country.  She has less than 10 years of experience in politics and basically has never done anything else.  IOW's she's just another politician.  I think America isn't going to be fooled into another campaign of electing a woman based solely on the fact that she's female and it's a "woman's turn".  Add to that that she's a nasty bit of work and comes across as shrill and demanding, not to mention sarcastic.  IMO, the perfect team for Trump to run against would be Harris (or Warren) and Booker in the veep spot.  America needs to see the youngblood of Progressivism and where they want to take us.  Oddly enough, I think he'd have more trouble beating Uncle Joe Biden with Harris as a veep.  Throw a Libertarian or Democratic Socialist into the mix and it could make for a wild ride.  If Trump wins again, I predict general violence like the Yellow Vests or even assassination attempts.

The current "president" is a former estate agent and show master who basically has never done anything else. Harris is in governmental positions for >25 years already.

I'm pleased about this. I see that my favourite, Tulsi Gabbard, is as well . Any chance that that Occasional Cortez person might be likely to as well? I think I'd go for her as well.

This woman is as dumb as a rock. She spoke for 35 minutes without saying nothing and being a former prosecutor makes her a big liar. She was also against abortion at one time.

How can she be stupid if she was a prosecutor? And all lawyers are liars. It's their whole career. Also, remember that the bar is Trump, the worst public speaker I've ever even heard in any country.

I don't know much about her politics, and personally I think Warren has some great ideas, but Harris ticks all the right boxes to get elected. The Dems need the black vote and if they can secure black numbers similar to Obama, along with the normal Dem voters - visible by the backlash against Trump that already saw a record number of midterm voters come out as blue - then the election probably won't even be close. It'd be the sensible choice if Dems want to win, which is why I think she'll get the nomination.

I don't know what any of their political views may be, and I couldn't really care less. I mean, no one knows what the Mighty Donald's political views may be, if any, and look at all the fun he's provided! :cat:

She was very far right for a Dem and p***ed off a lot of Japanese Americans with some greasiness.

As for Pocahontas.  I wouldn't vote for that lying douche if she was the only one running and she really needs to shut the **** up with that NDN fantasy of hers.

With Kanye West and others telling blacks it's time to leave the Democrat plantation, the DNC better start ramping up importing illegals to offset the lost black votes. I bet in 2020 we are going to see some dirty election tricks on both sides. There is too much on the line between red and blue. The country has never been so staunchly divided across all issues before. People will be voting irrationally just to "win"

Well...the Bernie movement "changed things" in the Democrat party, atleast for the younger generation that a lot of the other ancient mummies are trying to sucker in with "evolved" bs...

Either the old blood suckers move over and get outta the way,or this entire "progressive socialist democrat" movement will just have to accept it's all a sham!...

The way Bernie graciously bent over and took it from Hillary tells me all i need to know who's still running the show...

AOC's gonna either have too join the group of chameleons or all hells gonna/gotta break loose in that party!

95% of those in power in the democrat party in Washington are EXACTLY like the capitalistic Republicans when it comes to THEIR fortunes!...HANDS OFF BEGGERS! ;)

Identity Politics won't win the presidency my friend. :hmm: It didn't in 2016 and it won't in 2020. (plus it's just bad practice in general really)

Hillary tried that tactic in 2016 and lost primarily due to the rust belt. It was a bunch of factory workers who didn't care about identity politics and didn't vote for her because of her support for terrible trade deals that shipped their jobs overseas.

I genuinely believe that if we ran an unapologetically progressive candidate, we'd have a good chance of winning. But they have to focus primarily on The policies that the overwhelming majority of Americans already support.

I don't care if she's black or a woman or a yellow dolphin, I care where she stands on the core issues. And as it stands now, she has a pretty bad record as a DA and centrist politician. DAnd don't even get me started with the corporate PAC money she's received.

We need a true progressive. Don't let the Identity Politics dems distract us from the real goal.

Seems a sensible  position to me, Aquila King; I wish more people would think your way.

In regard the Dems; I get the impression that the Identity Politics wonks pretty much rule the roost at the moment.
