A 21-year-old woman died when she was hit by a police car responding to a 999 call.

The pedestrian was struck by the marked vehicle on Forest Road, Walthamstow, east London, at 23:45 GMT on Tuesday.

Officers stopped and tried to help the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived, the Met said.

Police are trying to trace her next of kin, who are thought to live outside the UK.

and then

That's one of the reasons that it's a crime to make a false 911 call in the U.S.  It can lead to dangerous or even tragic outcomes.

"two people apparently walked into the road" as the police vehicle travelled along Forest Road

Police cars will have their sirens on and there are places for people to cross.

Very tragic accident.

This is why people need to watch out for what is coming and cross at the right places.

"The YMCA St Paul's Group is shocked and saddened by this news and wishes to extend its condolences to the family and friends of the resident.

If she had friends and family why was she living in the WMCA? Just asking.

Possibly because her family aren’t in this country?

I wondered about that, also.

Grey Area

Little known fact, the Highway Code states that motorists must give way to pedestrians, even on the road, unless it is a motorway.

Flashing blue lights and sirens, uniforms and badges do not exempt a driver from obeying the law.  Police are trained to know when exercise caution.

Appears she had no family here. Hence why she was staying at the YMCA. I was just wondering why this young girl with family back home would end up here in the YMCA. What about friends here?
