LucidElement Posted January 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2019 Is there a book that you as a reader always believe you will read or want to read, but once you pick the book up , for whatever reason you cant finish it or only read a couple chapters and then put it away? A book you know is full of great reviews but something about it, either the length, the tiny font, the mass amount of characters, the timeline, etc, just throws you off and you decide to "come back to it". And even when you come back to it, you end up full circle and still are at the same issue where you've been with that book so many times before? My book: Spandau Phoenix- Greg Isles. Something about this book, intimidates the hell out of me. Not sure how a book can intimidate me, but I think its the myriad of characters, or maybe its just the overload of information (which is weird because as a history major, you write a lot of papers and do a lot of research). I can't say its the size of the book, because I've read the Natchez Burning series and those were not short by any means. I keep coming back to this book over and over and cant get past chapter two. I found it unreadable, despite my fondness for science fiction. I had the same reaction to the similarly famous classic Dune, by Frank Herbert. I've never gone past the third last page, I suppose I'm a little intimidated to carry on without her. But I've tried a number of times to read On the Revolution of Heavenly Spheres and Harmony of the World. (Copernicus and Kepler) For the life of me I can't finish neither. They always ruin each other somehow. Movies never live up to the book, and movies ruin how you imagine the book. Although I think The Hobbit trilogy is an exception. Same goes for video games.
