Expedition targets Shackleton's lost ship

A scientific expedition in the Antarctic is set to depart its current location to go in search of Sir Ernest Shackleton's lost ship.

The team has been investigating the Larsen C Ice Shelf and the continent's biggest iceberg, known as A68.

And this puts it just a few hundred km from the last recorded position of the famous British explorer's vessel, the Endurance.

The polar steam-yacht was crushed in sea-ice and sank in November 1915.

Pretty amazing guy.  I've never read up on him.   Surprised a movie wasn't made about him and his adventures.

It's on Amazon Video, I'll have to check it.   Although the trailer made it seem like a TV movie.

Yeah, checking it was a two part TV drama, but quality.

The team broke through thick pack ice on Sunday to reach the vessel's last known position in the Weddell Sea.

The attempt this week to find Sir Ernest Shackleton's missing ship, the Endurance, has ended - without success.

A UK-led expedition to the Weddell Sea sent a sub to the ocean floor to look for the sunken polar yacht, but this robot was itself lost in the process.

The team has now withdrawn from the area because of deteriorating weather and ice conditions.

Wow, that sucks.   They lost  the unmanned sub.   I assume they cost quite a bit.
