UM-Bot Posted February 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2019 When you look in the mirror, why is your image only flipped horizontally and not vertically ?
moonman Posted February 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) Mirrors don't "flip" anything in any direction, they simply reflect what is in front of them. Thinking about it in terms of horizontal and vertical is the wrong way to go about it. Edited February 6, 2019 by moonman

ChrLzs Posted February 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) I'm sure it's covered in the videos supplied, but for those like me who are too jaded to open Yoube content.... Mirrors do NOT, NOT flip things horizontally!!!! They provide a direct reflection of what is in front of them. But WE have 'vertical symmetry' - we are symmetrical but ONLY from side to side. Think about that - our bodies are almost identical around a VERTICAL axis, so the reflection shows that. If we were symmetrical top to bottom, then we'd have nothing to be complaining about.... You can test this by lying down on the floor and looking at your reflection - omigod, the left-right thing isn't working...
