The Green New Deal

The Green New Deal is a four part program for moving America quickly out of crisis into a secure, sustainable future. Inspired by the New Deal programs that helped us out of the Great Depression of the 1930s, the Green New Deal will provide similar relief and create an economy that makes our communities sustainable, healthy and just.
THE FOUR PILLARS OF THE GREEN NEW DEAL

I - THE ECONOMIC BILL OF RIGHTS
Our country cannot truly move forward until the roots of inequality are pulled up, and the seeds of a new, healthier economy are planted. Thus, the Green New Deal begins with an Economic Bill of Rights that ensures all citizens:

1. The right to employment through a Full Employment Program that will create 25 million jobs by implementing a nationally funded, but locally controlled direct employment initiative replacing unemployment offices with local employment offices offering public sector jobs which are "stored" in job banks in order to take up any slack in private sector employment.

Local communities will use a process of broad stakeholder input and democratic decisionmaking to fairly implement these programs.
Pay-to-play prohibitions will ensure that campaign contributions or lobbying favors do not impact decision-making.
We will end unemployment in America once and for all by guaranteeing a job at a living wage for every American willing and able to work.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Socialists are making a move to take over the Democrat party.  Do you think they will succeed?  Do you think they should succeed?  If this Bill were passed, what do you think it would mean for America and the World and why?
I think they will succeed. The reality is incorporating socialistic principles in certain areas is the fiscally responsible thing to do as well as the humane thing.
I think this bill is pretty pie in the sky, just throw it all out there and go from there, or as Trump "said" in art of the deal ask for the world and then negotiate down to what you really want.
As for its effects I dont truly understand all of its details to comment but done correctly incorporating socialistic concepts in education and healthcare will lead to a boon for American ingenuity and prosperity.
So you think it will succeed. Sounds like you think it should exceed.  Can you explain where exactly Socialism has ever been done 'correctly' where the Utopian Dream was anything other than an outright disaster for the people?
You should read it all...how does one just get rid of Jet Travel...and how does one build a train track across the ocean?
This entire bill should be a wakeup call for how far the Communists have come to overtaking us without firing a shot.  How did we get to a place where people actually believe that we are all going to be dead in twelve years?
I like it. Anybody should be able to have a job if wanted and make themself useful. I think it should replace cash aid.
It won't succeed. They can't even find the funds for our already deteriorating infrastructure and failing bridges. They've been trying to find funding for a high speed train between Chattanooga and Atlanta for at least ten years. If she thinks the elite and our politicians are going to scale down their overseas excursions she's doesn't have a brain in her head.
The people who are in favor of this I guarantee haven't read the whole thing.
Hawaii certainly isn't in favor of it. There goes their major source of income.
What if you don't want to work?   Right now...pretty much everyone who wants to work can find a job.
Well i read every word and there are many important items included that need to be addressed. I hope this does gain the monumental momentum tgat will be required to enact, because it is what we need. This would change a lot of peoples lives for the better.
I'm interested why you think Socialism is a good thing and why you think it will work?
Just wait till they get to the part about cow farts lol Is everyone on board to becoming vegan?
And put a big dent in California's bottom line. Oh well, they don't need it. They just squelched single-payer healthcare again. Apparently even they aren't on board with the Green New Deal.
Hardly. And it would be a pretty huge stretch to call many of the jobs livable wages. If you don't want to work don't! But it shouldn't upset you to suggest that people have jobs readily available that they can make a living at rather than getting checks for doing nothing. Dubbing anything that benefits those less fortunate than you "socialist" and snubbing it for that is a disturbing behavior to me. There are way too many people dying from homelessness, lack of healthcare and inability to get back on thier feet. This is a good move and a great way to help a lot of people and also better our society and infrastructure.
I didnt say i think it will work because i have no idea what kind of plans are in store for this massive undertaking. But I do believe it is a very needed and humane thing to do if done right. Its sad to me that our technological level we lack the decency to include all members of society in that success. People shouldn't be starving out here but i see it everywhere.
Re. Bold: can you make up your mind whether you think this is socialism or communism?
Then there might be a worthwhile discussion to be had.
Well the plan puts a lot of people out work. But no worries, the government will give you a job! (sound familiar?)
It's unicorn and rainbow communism. The communist here in the US never went away. They just rebranded the name to democratic socialist to make it more palatable to the masses.
Right, so the next dem CIC can say just like Obama condescendingly said and I quote, "you didn't build that" and proceed to tax all of us (not just the tippy top) into oblivion.  I guarantee you that Cortez will not live her life according to what she prescribes for the rest of us peons.
So the plan is to nationalize healthcare, education, the energy industry, housing and make government promised employment for anyone.
While raising taxes on everyone and creating a government bank to print more money lol
If you agree with this you're basically just a communist. The distinction is so slim at that point.
(Actually read the thing)
5. The right to decent affordable housing, including an immediate halt to all foreclosures and evictions. We will:
  • create a federal bank with local branches to take over homes with distressed mortgages and either restructure the mortgages to affordable levels, or if the occupants cannot afford a mortgage, rent homes to the occupants;
6. The right to accessible and affordable utilities – heat, electricity, phone, internet, and public transportation – through democratically run, publicly owned utilities that operate at cost, not for profit.
You see people starving?  Not to be rude, but...I don't think you have ever seen one person starving in your whole life.  Unless you have visited places like Ethiopia, or Uganda or Haiti or ...Venezuela.
Oh and let's not forget the part about nationalizing the federal reserve. Fund it by printing out more money right lol
2. Democratize monetary policy to bring about public control of the money supply and credit creation. This means we'll nationalize the private bank-dominated Federal Reserve Banks and place them under a Monetary Authority within the Treasury Department.
Have you ever taken the time to read the entire statement that quote came from? The popular use of it as some sort of evidence of Obama's maliciousness is wholly taken out of context
I honestly want to know because I don't think people are really that far left.
Do you agree with nationalizing all the things the bill wants?
Healthcare, college, the energy industry, housing, promised employment by goverment, and nationalizing the federal reserve?
Healthcare and college absolutely without doubt - those need to happen. The energy industry I could definitely be talked into. The fed reserve I must admit to not wholly understanding but I will say the largest portion of our debt is to them and that does freak me out a little bit.
I read somewhere and of course it coulda just been random smear tactics but if "a guaranteed living wage,no matter if one is able but decides not to work"...
If true,go ahead and throw this whole plan in the dump!
I and mostly any/everyone i know will flat out refuse to give lazy bums a free slice of our earned paychecks!
There is a whole lotta pie in the sky BS in this,very similair to Obama's original "Hope and Change" propaganda!
I think in general it should succeed. When you look at the nordic nations with their blended social programs you can see massive successes.
