Eldorado Posted February 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2019 For women trying to keep a healthy weight after menopause, the American Heart Association has a simple message: Choose water over diet drinks. A study published Thursday in Stroke, a journal of the AHA, reveals women age 50 and above who consume more than one artificially sweetened drink a day are significantly more likely to have a stroke, a heart attack and an early death. Even women with no history of heart disease or diabetes are considerably more vulnerable to increased health risks if they drink multiple diet beverages a day. HandsomeGorilla Posted February 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2019 (edited) Artificial sweeteners can also trigger your brain into wanting real sugar, sometimes leading to binge eating and overconsumption of not-so-great food choices. The only sweetener I use now is stevia, but it's still in a lot of people's best interest to not use any sweetener at all. Also, beware of so called "zero calorie" sweeteners, in particular. It's a little loophole that companies take advantage of to market diet drinks. The sweetener itself may be zero calorie, but they're not telling you that the fillers they use, namely dextrose and maltodextrin, are high glycemic sugars that will spike the **** out of your blood sugar. Diabetics, those prone to obesity and insulin resistant folks should be especially wary of this. Not to mention the gastrointestinal distress all these can cause, as well as water retention and other issues. Habitat Posted February 15, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2019 Someone told me that white sweetening powder will kill ants around the house, never tried it, though.
