Mexico border wall: Trump defends emergency

Unusual Tournament

Is that actually what Trump has said, or is it something you've read in the media? From what I've read, there was always going to be big sections with no wall. 500 miles I think is what I read.

Yes, you are right.  I just looked at a bunch of the President's speeches.  He talked repeatedly about a big beautiful concrete wall with reinforcing steel.  That wall would be so beautiful that someday we would name it after him.  But he did not say from coast to coast.  At one point he did say we can rely on mountains and rivers and only need 1000 miles of wall.  It was in this  thread that it becomes bigger.

I feel better already.  Thanks DieChecker.  I guess the President is more sensible than some of his fans.  I don't think he ever said we need 150,000 troops stationed on the border either.

Except that Congress created the law he's using, so he's not bypassing Congress. Congress GAVE him these powers.

They gave him the power to declare an emergency, not void congresses control of the purse.

Which includes redirecting funds.  As it is, Congress is derelict of duty.

Not after congress said no.

I mean it will end America as we know it if he succeeds, but, hey it at least will mean the next potus can do something about healthcare, education and gun control :tu:

I cant believe alleged conservatives are cheering on the bypassing of the checks and balances SMDH talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Reallly reminds me of that idiot who let his store go out of business because he didnt want to sell Kaepernick gear Going Out of Business to Own the Libs

It will go to court...and Trump literally said "I didn't need to do this."  He self sabotages more than anyone ever.  I didn't have to do this, but this is a national emergency.  Good luck to his lawyers defending that.  Like, what kind of idiot wrote that speech?  Or was that just the supreme idiot going off the cuff there?  National emergency, but here I am in Mar-A-Lago golfing!  The brightest and best, best negotiator, Mexico will pay for the wall...you people are fools.  Even Ann Coulter says only the stupidest people in his base will buy this BS.  That is the most intelligent thing she has EVER said.  Yet, here we are, in this thread, with the stupidest people in his base, falling for it.

Trump has opened Pandora's political box. Republicans are going to regret this in the next cycle. New emergency firearms regulations, new emergency universal health care act, and a new emergency extremism bill to combat domestic terrorism. My o my, which to choose first? Or will it be the new normal for the new president to strip and rip up everything the previous president did ad nauseum til the country collapses?

Not even the Democrats would be stupid enough to seize guns. They may threaten and bluster, but in the end they wouldn't DARE risk an insurrection.

Congress said no to the People.  So Trump is still going to get his wall, are you going to cry?  Want to cry my hands full?  There are consequences to telling the President ‘NO’.

I mean it will end America as we know it if he succeeds,

He may just have save America.

but, hey it at least will mean the next potus can do something about healthcare, education and gun control

Considering that the President has called a national emergency over 50 times since Carter, do you seriously think that a Progressive President will care one way or the other what Trump does before pulling something?  Progressives know that if they are too overt about taking our guns that there will be revolution in the streets, national emergency or not.  There is no national emergency that would require us giving up our guns short of violating the Constitution.

I cant believe alleged conservatives are cheering on the bypassing of the checks and balances SMDH talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.

What Congress did is also bypassing of the checks and balances.  Trump is President, not Pelosi.  Trump is fulfilling his sworn duty to protect America and Americans.  He’s not trying to cram healthcare down our throats or take our guns.  He’s doing his best to see that this nation does not turn into a Socialist shithole.

Correct!  And if Congress was not derelict of duty, he wouldn’t have to do their job for them.

Good luck to his lawyers defending that.

Doesn’t need luck.  He’s prepared for that.  He has the Constitution on his side and he will win when it gets to the Supreme Court.  His best witnesses will be the words of Progressives saying that there is a need for the wall.  Then there is 10 USC 284.  He’ll have Angel Parents to support him and stats for Opioids.

So much hate, so much TDS.

Man one nice thing to come from all of this is you extremists are at least dropping the whole "care about the constitution" pretense.

You truly dont understand the difference between declaring an emergency because there is an emergency and declaring one with the sole intent of bypassing congress to appropriate moneys do you? THAT is the violation here. Not that he has declared an emergency, but that he is doing so with the sole intent of bypassing the will of congress. AKA the checks and balances that keep us from being a tyranny.

Again, at least you guys are outing yourselves at this point.

I get that you dont like Pelosi , but the constitution doesnt allow for the POTUS to bypass congress for dollars, even when we dont like who is in congress.

It will be interesting to see if this becomes anything:

With Americans Outraged Over Trump's 'Power Grab Based on Lies,' Nearly 250 President's Day Protests Planned Across the Country

Quote

As of Sunday morning, more than 240 demonstrations in cities and towns across the country are planned for Monday, February 18, with more than 10,000 Americans prepared to protest President Donald Trump's admittedly-fake national emergency, and Republicans for their support for his actions.

240 demonstrations to protest the President's use of emergency powers ?

Or 240 pre-planned demonstrations just against Trump, regardless of excuse, by liberals wanting to scream at the sky ?

You really have no idea how much of a minority you and your ilk really are do you? I saw how tough you lot are when you took over the Malhuer wildlife refuge. All that tough talk about sovereign citizens. Then sending a callout for food. That was side splittingly hilarious till Tarp guy went and got himself dead. Then it was just another sad reminder that those who talk the toughest, fold the quickest.

They really don't. Im pro second amendment but what that means is changing daily. We just had another kid from my son's school arrested for threatening to shoot the place up. Im pretty much done stressing out so some idiots can have the right to treat a deadly weapon like a fashion accessory.

Oh you will see a change on that .. probably in your life time.. I give it another 20 years.. then you will see restrictions in place.. it will take a couple of your judges to drop off the perch and be replaced..  but you will see it..

Sorry to hear that.  :(

It also sounds like you just referred to gun owners as idiots.     That's not fair at all.

My interpretation of this was, he was saying that it didn't need to come to this if they would have worked with us the way they should have.

I really think the Dems are shooting themselves in the foot with average Americans. Regular people on the streets see him as having tried to compromise,  he's signed their bill, he's given them time to come around, etc. No matter how the media portrays it, that's what people see besides the fact that their dem reps seem to care more about illegal immigrants than their citizens.

Every border agent I've seen, including Obama's former head of border security, has said we need barriers. Despite all the disparaging talk about how "dumb" Americans are, we really aren't......

Ah yes...that seems to be the general consensus coming from Trump supporters.  And, that argument can be made UNTIL his very next sentence.

"I didn't need to do this.  But, I'd rather do it much faster."

I'm hearing it from people who hate Trump. They see just what I said, he's compromising, they're not, he wants to keep us safe, they don't,  seems like they care more about them than us...especially over the bed limiting. That they would be willing to let hardened criminals into the country rather than keep them contained or send them back really sends a message....and not a good one. Someone isn't thinking this thru.

I would be happy to agree with you if that is more than opinion and backed up by facts.

I see.  So until then, you are going with the theory that says drug runners prefer the routes that fail 80% of the time.

Good thinking.

Really?  So when he was offered the entire $25 billion for the wall last year in exchange for DACA protections and he turned it down, was that compromising?

Theory?  Cartels aren't moving drugs a backpack at a time.  They move drugs by the TON.  You ain't walking a ton of drugs through the desert.  But, feel free to back up your theory with some numbers, as requested.
