+susieice Posted March 18, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2019 Just saw this here. I looked it up and reports are that 3 are deceased and 9 are injured. The shooter has not yet been caught and Netherlands officials are urging the public to be cautious. They are calling this an act of terrorism. My sympathies to the victims and their families. Stay safe everyone until this man is caught. They haven't ruled out that others may be involved also. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/several-people-injured-utrecht-shooting-n984286 1

Dark_Grey Posted March 18, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2019 Immediately after the Christchurch shooting, several Twitter accounts promised violent retribution. I didn't think it would start so quickly...
Ashotep Posted March 18, 2019 #7 Share Posted March 18, 2019 So its a revenge killing, most likely will be more. Feel sorry for anyone in these nut cases way.
Phaeton80 Posted March 18, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) Lets not jump to conclusions here, there is no concrete evidence to that effect as of yet. Quote Update 6: The number of injured is now five, down from an initial report of nine. Update: Not 9 but 5 people were injured by the shooting at the #24oktoberplein in #Utrecht. — Politie Utrecht (@PolitieUtrecht) March 18, 2019 Update 5: Authorities believe that a red Renault Clio stolen shortly before the shooting may have been used as an escape vehicle, according to AD.nl. Police have raided an apartment nearby where the vehicle was found. A local interviewed reports that "several police actions are currently going on throughout Utrecht," and that "arrests are being made." I interviewed a local from Utrecht about the situation. pic.twitter.com/qfCc9fXBVP — Nick Monroe (@nickmon1112) March 18, 2019 Update 4: Local media reports that an eyewitness named Niels says suspect Gökmen Tanis was targeting a specific woman, and then began shooting people attempting to help her. Via AD.nl (translated): "It happened in the tram behind me. Suddenly there was commotion. The tram stopped in a bend so I could clearly see what was happening in the tram set behind me. The door of the tram was forced and windows were smashed. There was confusion in our tram set, but it remained fairly calm." "At that moment there was certainly already a shot in the tram behind me. You heard about the plop-plop-plop sounds, as if there was a muffler on it. Then I saw people running outside, really for their lives. I felt that he was focusing specifically on someone because I saw a woman crawling out. Bystanders tried to pull her away, but when they did, that man went after her specially and aimed at those bystanders." "I couldn't see what he looked like. He was wearing a dark coat, a normal posture, and a long gun in his hand. Just such a hand gun, not an automatic weapon, as far as I could see. Then he went after someone with a yellow vest trying to help that woman, and after that I could not see it anymore." In weird world there are weird thoughts. It sounds absolutely crazy but i do "hope" this was a terrorist attack. BECAUSE I do not want to have the relieved feeling if it is not although there have been victims. Anyone else with the same makaber feelings? Crazy. Phaeton80 Posted March 18, 2019 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) Suspect has earlier been convicted for: - attempt at murder (2013); - shoplifting; - DUI; - druguse (synthetic, illegal variants); - damaging public and or private property; - spitting a police official in the face; - involved in a rapecase (2017). Fits the M.O. of any random ISIS employ perfectly (ie. 'criminal'; only thing missing in that scenario is 'hes been on the secret service radar for years'), although I personally suspect it to be an 'honor killing', given the witness reports indicating the targetting of a specific woman and all those who tried to help her. It's too soon to say this is an act of revenge. This may have been planned a while ago. Especially if there are others involved.

We sitt back, watch them, have beer and pizza. The winner at the end will be burned. Maybe it would stop there. But, terrorists are known cowards. They run if someone shoots back.

thedutchiedutch Posted March 18, 2019 #18 Share Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) People that know this ******* say that he is a cocaine addicted lunatic, a drugs dealer and instable as can be. The type you can unfortunately expect to do something like this eventually. Very well known to police and has a lengthy criminal record. One old female friend and later rape victim of this low life called him a psychopath rather than a terrorist. Space Commander Travis Posted March 19, 2019 #21 Share Posted March 19, 2019 The media seems to have been remarkably quiet about this. No one seems to have mentioned the name or identity of the perpetrator, for instance. One might almost think the media didn't want to draw attention to it.

Phaeton80 Posted March 19, 2019 #24 Share Posted March 19, 2019 Id guess were dealing with one of two main scenario's: - 'gangster islam' terrorism; - 'honor killing' (terrorism). In both cases the perpetrator is inherently anti Islamic; drinking alcohol, using drugs, attempt at murder, rape, theft.. and now a 2nd attempt at murder.. including or excluding the honor killing motive (which is also extremely anti Islamic in itself).. And interestingly, this man fits the profile of most of the 'European Islamic terrorists', most of which had a similar background as this fool (that is to say, hardcore criminals). Again; the only real difference between this case and all the main European terror acts - if it indeed is comparable - is the claim 'he was on the radar of intelligence agencies for years'. We havent heard that (yet), although he obviously was on the radar of the judicial system. What Id like to know is why this guy was free to do what he did in the first place with that kind of track record.. Seems like 'a bomb waiting to go off' if you'd ask me (pardon the pun), youd think this would garner a certain 'attention span' from the police / AIVD. Guess not.
