Mushrooms on Mars?

"Images from the surface of Mars reveal the presence of mushrooms, a group of scientists claim in a controversial new study.

It states some images captured by NASA's Curiosity show fungi is growing on the surface of the supposedly barren planet."

Daily Mail report: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6848453/Life-Mars-NASAs-Curiosity-rover-snaps-photos-mushrooms.html

"Presented here is a body of evidence and observations which do not prove but supports the hypothesis Mars was, and is, a living planet hosting prokaryotes, lichens, and fungi."

"Journal of astrobiology": http://journalofastrobiology.com/Mars5.html

I had a dream recently that sea shells were found on Mars. But this is really interesting.

One of those pictures shows what looks suspiciously like a cow pat. That is getting outside my range of credulity.

This appears to be massively overhyped and looks like a sham to me. The "journal" where this was published is in its first (and probably only) issue and includes such scientific topics like "Is Life on Mars Contrary to Torah, the Bible, Islam, Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism?" and "Quantum Physics of Consciousness". The photos appear to be hematite concretions and no convincing evidence supports the authors' assertion that they are fungi.

Not A Rockstar

The shapes look good to someone like me who doesn't know a huge lot about geology, but, I really doubt the surface there is damp enough for fungi to be growing - at least the types we know of. This is more likely to be some sort of rock formation to me. Had they truly found something like this, NASA would have been in hysterics to announce it and get credit for finding life of some sort.

Hab's seashells are more likely to be found there IMO. We have seen formations suggestive of marine action and possible early formations before. A seashell would be exciting to find there.

Now, fungi might be underground. That is my hope for life to be found, a chance for us to learn what may be underground, where some moisture and shelter remains. Mars is my biggest hope for life to be found elsewhere, however minor, in my lifetime :)

But, this is just hope.

They're about 1/4 to 1/6 the size of a quarter, which is about 25 millimeters, so say about 4 - 6 milliimeters.

Zany claim.

Imagine if they found these what the claims would be:

Better yet, imagine the claims of alien life if they found something like this..

*snicker* :P ok I'll just go get my coat shall I.

Doing a quick image search for things that might be related (rock formations that is)...it boggles the mind that all sorts of claims haven't been made about them, right here on earth.

I'd provide a link but I really don't want people to thing I am THAT strange.
