I'm thinking that we are getting close to the event/s that will mark the moment when the downfall begins for Donald.  If you disagree that is about to happen ... well, you're no fun and maybe this thread isn't the one for you..  :D

Anyway, what do you think will be the last straw, the one that marks when it all began to go horribly, legally, presidency-ending wrong?

  • The release of the redacted (or maybe unredacted) Mueller Report?
  • An impeachment / indictment beginning on obstruction of justice?
  • Ditto ...  on fraud / misuse of funds (inauguration, tax or otherwise?)?
  • Ditto ...  on something else (there's plenty to pick from)?

or, and here's my picks (both of which are rather surprising to me)

  • His big sister's resignation as a Circuit Judge, apparently to avoid prosecution? (Will another prosecution grow out of this?) OR
  • His tax returns content when they are inevitably released...

PS - I actually hate gambling, so I will not be accepting any money.  :D

I will however gleefully accept kudos if/when I'm shown to be right.  (And relief when your nightmare ends and we can go back to watching Trumpless news...)

Trump to do 2 terms.

Followed by his daughter doing another.

I predict the Democrat Congress reading the recently released report and not seeing what they want there, and insisting the the report was edited. Then forcing Mueller and his team to testify. To which, again, they will not get the words they want. And then trying to ruin Mueller. Also Assange will be forced to testify, and again, the words they want will not be there.

Frustrated, the Birthers.... errr... Collisionists... Will try lawsuits and bribe whatever leakers they can find to get the "One True Report ". But the Trumpians will have hidden it too well, and it will never be found.

Trump will continue to have Obama level public confidence and will soundly trounce Bernie Sanders in 2020. He'll rule benevolently with the new Republican House majority, and get many major projects done. Including putting two more SCOTUS judges on the bench.

It will be a golden age for conservatism. All made possible by the overplaying of socialism, and identity politics by the left. The left will then reject socialism, and move to take the Center, and then, and only then, gain another presidency in 2024.

As to Trump's taxes. Even if they find something, the base 40% isn't going to care. They'd have to find something really good, and wait till Sep or Oct, 2020 for it to even have a chance of affecting the next election. And I don't think the people pushing the taxes angle are going to wait.

I think Trump will leave office after his first term.  He did it to know he did it.   Becoming President that is.  His ego has been satisfied with it.

At first I thought he would just get sick of it, but now I think he likes the office.  He has made it into something that fits his style.

My prediction is that the democratic party will collapse before the 2024 election.

This is a distinct possibility. The rise of the Independents perhaps with any moderate Dems left jumping ship and moving over to them.

I think the 12 secret indictments will make Trump want to maintain that presidential immunity from prosecution for as long as possible.

My bet is - no matter what it is, nothing will hurt his chances for a second term or he will never be impeached. But I think the democrats will probably gain both the house and senate sometime between 2020 and 2024. I'm sure that will irritate him and his base.

Hey Farmer, not knowing too much about your political processes i just can't imagine anyone legally removing Trump on anything short of major injury or something worse. he cares little for scandal or what others think of him and his business dealings. the man has no shame or morals. the guy is like Lex Luther. nothing phases this guy. it would divide the nation like no other event, imo if he would be forcibly removed. do you think that the democrats are making noise just to damage his chances of reelection or are they looking to really remove him?

Based on the impeachment process requiring the republicans to vote in favor of it I cant imagine any of the dems actually think removal from office is an option. I do however, perhaps romantically, hope that some of them are still considering pursuing the impeachment process due to their own moral convictions.

While the current conventional wisdom seems to be that it would be a bad political move for the dems I think we can look at history a little and see how the public nature of the impeachment process brought Nixon's approval ratings from absurdly high levels (like near 80% if i recall correctly) down into a range where there was no political will for his party to protect him.

Personally Ive come around to the position that what we need to be doing is ending the conditions ripe for a Trump - or a Clinton for that matter - rather than damaging the nation through removal attempts.

I am intrigued by the secret indictments however. That has nothing to do with the dems and is honestly the one thing that should have the whole criminal enterprise terrified.

This close to 2020 there will not be enough people willing to risk their own election hopes by pursuing impeachment. It won't happen, impeachment is a dead duck. If the American people want Donald Trump gone they will vote him out, if they don't, they will keep him in. This is the only guage we will ever really have on the Trump Presidency.

Well removal is out. If the dems decided to do so he could be impeached tomorrow since they hold the house. I do think there could be some value in the public nature of the impeachment process.

unfortunately democracy moves slowly, and many people will want to focus on the Primaries, the smart ones will focus on the primaries.

We're talking apples and apples. What I was saying is that via the impeachment process we would be seeing public hearings broadcast daily outlining the behaviors of the administration. Of course theres no hope for removal from office but if done properly it would force Trump insiders past and present to give democrats the greatest campaign ad material in history.  While it of course wouldnt move the partisans hearing the reality directly from the mouths of insiders could sway any independents if there is such a thing anymore.

Historically we can look back and see that before the impeachment hearings Nixon had around a 60% approval rating, by the end it was closer to 20.

True. But the appearance of supporting the process will alienate potential swing voters. I am just placing my bet. This is just my prediction.

I think a lot of Congressional representatives will still yell impeachment, but never act, because ut sounds good to those ultra liberal voters back home in their districts. Not yelling impeach is likely to get them un-reelected.

I'm not entirely unsure of whether or not that last sentence is not double negatively negative... or not.

There seem to me to be good arguments on both sides ie impeach or no - certainly the evidence is somewhere between plentiful, disgraceful and overwhelming... but by the time they get it all done, he'll most likely be voted out.  Or at least will if the lazy SOB's who didn't vote last time get off their collective rumps to get rid of the orange rump...

And then of course, the other cases currently in progress may move things along a little quicker...
